My profile picture is of a male sapphire flutterer (Rhyothemis princeps), a dragonfly with iridescent indigo wings, alighted on a twig. I've never seen one in person (they live in Australia & New Guinea) - I just like them because I like dragonflies and they are an especially pretty species.

@tomkindlon@disabled.social I'm currently trying 6 mg melatonin for GERD; it seems to be helping - hope it continues to improve. https://todayspractitioner.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/0708_werbach-1.pdf ~ There are reports of melatonin content varying a lot from what is on the label - mostly much higher than what is on the label. Apparently, melatonin can degrade, so some supplement makers put in more to account for its degradation over time: https://youtu.be/0NnAYGM6gF8?si=epB2uv8NsrwQtRw8&t=204 ~ There's evidence from studies on rodents that melatonin can improve blood-brain barrier function: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0154427 If brain inflammation is driving chronic pain, then it seems plausible that melatonin could help.

@emd@cosocial.ca They discontinued the model I had, but I kept using it since I didn't want to spend more money (I had only had if for a year). But then they did an 'update' and it started behaving weirdly. The screen would randomly light up in the middle of the night and it was really bright - like a phone flashlight. I stopped using it and the experience soured me on using a wearable. I had gotten it for Afib detection. No Afib, but it reported ridiculous HR spikes at times.

One of my main reactions is painful swallowing. I had an upper endoscopy to check for eosinophilic esophagitis but biopsies were normal - but I have the same symptoms as EoE. Pain is greatly reduced by drinking a baking soda solution.

I first tried baking soda after I noticed that my symptoms were worse if drinking something acidic (lemon water), and improved if I drank something basic (Oatly oatmilk). I had not seen the video or heard of the Japanese case report.

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange There's a content management service called LibGuides that a lot of libraries use to curate their pathfinders and to collaborate with others. I never liked it, tbh. I found it clunky and I preferred having an in-house cms. However, I can see the advantage of being able to collaborate more easily with other libraries in order to keep up with the onslaught of AI slop.
