A pinball addict. I tend to enjoy working on pins as much as playing them! Owner of Hopeakuula Arcade, apzpins on Twitch and YouTube. Also: cats! 🇫🇮 This account is all about casual and tournament playing, streaming, restoring, repairing and owning pinball. I also repair all kinds of stuff and do plenty of 3D printing. Other casual nostalgia and retro stuff might also sneak in. Feel free to ask me stuff.

Stern recently released an update to all of their Internet connected games and for a lot of them they didn't seem to do much when it comes to game specific stuff, but I made a note they had done a major OS update.
The operator menus in Stern Spike 2 platform use an emulated version of a dot matrix display, most likely because no one bothered to rewrite the whole diagnostics part and it was easier to just add the DMD emulation. This Portals GUI has existed since mid-90s Sega games and has been around on Data-East/Sega Version 3, Sega/Stern WhiteStar, Stern SAM, Stern Spike and Stern Spike 2 platforms.
With Spike 3 it was finally replaced with all-high resolution graphics version and for a while it looked like that was going to be exclusive for the Spike 3. But after this major update a bunch of late release Spike 2 games (from Godzilla onwards) seem to sport the Spike 3 GUI.
It has some cool quality of life improvements, such as full playfield diagrams for diagnostics and lot of other stuff. Let's have a look how it looks!
