Probleme mit den Relays geben, weil die keine unverschlüsselten Nachrichten akzeptieren. (So wie ich es verstanden habe). @kuketzblog@social.tchncs.de Das einzige Argument, was in diesem Kontext noch zieht ist also die Contact-discovery. Und auch in diesem Fall kenne ich genug Leute, die über Signal nur einen oder vielleicht zwei Kontakte haben. Auch hier ist es also sehr vom Kontext abhängig. Ich würde jedenfalls empfehlen, sich Delta Chat nochmal genauer anzusehen, damit in Zukunft nicht mehr mit "Gegenargumenten", wie der E-Mail Basis hantiert wird. Das ist ja auch wieder höchstens ein Gegenargument für techies.

@kuketzblog@social.tchncs.de Der Einwand, dass die Contact-Discovery bei Signal einfacher ist, ist völlig fair. Allerdings gehen deine anderen Argumente gegen Delta Chat völlig am Ziel vorbei: Niemand muss sich bei Delta Chat mehr ernsthaft mit der E-Mail-Basis auseinadersetzen. Da mittlerweile standardmäßig alles verschlüsselt über die chatmail-relays läuft ist es nur noch notwendig einen Benutzernamen einzugeben und den QR-Code oder link einer anderen Person zu nutzen, um einen Chat zu beginnen.

@nihilistic_capybara @zkat @jokeyrhyme That is a good point. My line of thought is, that there is no 'higher power' (like the state) at play, who would make them pay. The state and those big companies essentially move in the same realm of hierarchical power over all of us (in sometimes different forms). So if we don't organise yet (which we should do) to dismantle these authoritarian power structures, what can i do? I can at least not use their technology and further my independence from it.

@nihilistic_capybara I can think i can understand your problem at least in parts (Because i don't think, that i could just understand it completely from an online coversation). Sometimes, i have similar problems. I hope, that your human contacts are a better help for that! And despite all of it, i'm sorry for having been rude before! I didn't knew your reasoning, so just asking would have been a better way to take for me.

If you think about LLMs enough, you will likely see enough good arguments about the resource waste, centralization of power and multiplication of slop which describe LLMs. We lived without it before and we can live without it in future times.

I mean, the link you posted above criticises the de jure (Snap) and de facto (Flathub) centralization of these packaging systems, which is a valid. But why then, do you want a unified approach? Honestly i would only use Snaps if i really had to... But Flatpaks are in my mind at least more or less the standard packages for sandboxing on Linux. Who uses Appimages?

So, here you have Flatpak, where you can install the same version of Delta Chat or other apps the same way accross different distribitions.

@aerion@nerdculture.de @bas_spr@digitalcourage.social Well, that's why you don't install everything as a flatpak, but many apps don't need a good system integration. In these cases, Flatpak is nice for it's easy permission management which is not as much limited by skill like for example Apparmor.

And tbf, the spread of cities in the US is in direct relation to car-centric planning. Because they want you to need a car...

You may already know, that cars are bad for the environment (resources and use of energy), for human habitats (noise, microplastics and air pollution; use of square footage by parking cars) and are just death maschines compared to almost sny other mode of transportation...
