I had one teacher that would mutter expletives every time the "Renaissance" came up in course work and did offer their opinions on the "Renaissance" a couple of times, which concurs with Palmer's stance.

Agreed. If you're close enough to photograph an animal you're close enough to shoot it with a gun. Hunting costs more money than shopping at the grocers so asides from getting rid of serious nuisances shooting animals with guns is, in most cases, a bloodsport for immature lackwits. I like stalking/hunting but photographs of animals are better trophies of the event than a head(which is a bugger to keep clean anyway).

I would argue that beaten children become adults that physically abuse others only if they have parents or guardians that approve and reward that behaviour when they are children.

Agreed. And I say this as someone who Social Services had a fat file on because I was covered in bruises since I was a baby. I grew up with no respect for authority figures because my parents and teachers would smack me or emotionally abuse me. Smacking children does not turn them into angels.

I agree. The only use for the House of Lords I can perceive is, without any power over government policies, as an official lobbyist body to the government(after the crown's power over government has been gelded and the UK news media has been nationalised or reformed, the BBC included). Such a lobbyist body would be maintained by corporates & the very rich. Of course all this would require considerable reformation of the UK government and the electoral process.

I agree that the House of Lords should be defunded and have nothing to do with UK government legislation. But removing hereditary peers from the House of Lords only means UK governments, which have been progressively Right wing since the 1980s, can fill the House of the Lords with unelected neoliberal Right wing supporters of their policies. And they will be there for life.

I sympathise. I am also bemused by the US competitiveness with the UK; every time we screw up the US has to go one better, or rather one worse.
