Julie Bishop has resigned. Now our beleaguered ANU—formerly Australia’s flagship university—can start healing. Rebuilding trust among both students and staff is important. #canberra #highereducation
@geoff_eg@mastodon.social @antongorlin@mastodon.art Nearest we Aussies get are alpine tundra-like areas in south-west Tasmania*, and patches at high elevations in Kosciuszko National Park (southern NSW).
- Not the World Heritage-listed SW Tassie, it’s too low. More the mountain and high plateau terrain inland from the West Coast. Unfortunately that fragile area has been ravaged by two extensive wildfire events in the past 10-15 years.
@trib@aus.social Gee it’s taking a while* for many to catch on. In the 70s, one of our men—son of a Western District farm manager—told us at length about a contemporary WD farmer who’d taken to planting trees on his property. Neighbours and “experts” poo-pooed this madness. Then they noticed Tree Man’s place was more productive (beasts & crops) and less drought afflicted than those around. Gordon also said, “most farmers are so stupid they don’t realise they get more out of their beasts if they have shelter”.
- An unconscionable, ridiculous long time.
