  My lovely wife bought me a table saw outfeed table for Father’s Day. It was so much more work assembling than we expected. The instructions weren’t done by ikea, there’s no “tab a in slot b” Instead it’s a “insert an m6x35 bolt through the correct hole in bar B, with two washers on each side, attach to the side rail of the PCS, and check for level. Adjust washers until the top of the plate is level with the saw top. Repeat 4 times, switching bolt side for the last two.” I love it, but wow.

  I got some spam this morning advertising a new tactile flashlight. I'm assuming they meant tactical. But now I'm just wondering how interesting a flashlight could be to touch. Really good knurling? A satisfying button so you really know where you stand? Perhaps a copper ring on a ball bearing so you could spin it in your hand while pointing it in the same direction? Just a sec, there's potential here, let me pull that out of spam and... shit. they meant tactical.

  Apparently Musk is finally launching his new money thing. Sort of, not what he originally promised, in most US states. They didn't manage to get money transmitter licenses (MTL) in New York or Massachusetts. Part of an MTL is "the effectiveness of the written compliance program including policies and procedures" it seems hard to me to think of X passing that hurdle. It's clear that Musk doesn't care about compliance and only hires people who do what he says. It can't...

  When I was a kid if you watched a movie there was at least a 50% chance the parents were already dead, or would die in the first act. The Land Before Time, Bambi, The Lion King, Oliver & Company, The Neverending Story, Pocahontas, etc. etc. etc. What do kids get today? Crime solving foxes and bunnies, Paddington Bear, Lilo and Stitch. I think they had to want us to grow up weird.

  I saw a post arguing that Frozen 2 should have been rated R. An entire kingdom is almost wiped off the map by a tidal wave. It reminded me of how I felt refreshed watching the movie Unstoppable. It's about a runaway train, and if it can't be stopped it will probably derail in a suburban community in New Jersey. In the end everyone is saved because they finally listen to the guy who has been working railroads for decades.

  I continue to think it's wild how different communities, even grouped together on a site like reddit, can be. Community 1: To pose a question you must meet these 8 requirements, it must have the correct flair, and you must include links to the searches you have done looking for previous answers. Community 2: A picture of an error on your very dirty monitor, with significant glare, taken at a weird angle with a 17 year old cell phone? We're on it.

  I wish there was a way for a company that wanted to confirm your identity online to like bounce you to a government operated website, the government would confirm who you are (with your ID or something) then bounce you back. Ideally with the government not actually knowing who it confirmed your ID to. Like an OAUTH flow for identity. I'm not thinking about adult websites.   Niche pet peeve: Website form asks you for your address, they provide a specific box for suite or apartment number so you use it. The popup scolds you for entering your address weird, and asks you to approve shoving it all on one line.

  One of the many annoying things about buying a plane ticket in 2026 is how the airlines have 37 fares each with their own matrix of features. Many of those features are irrelevant to me due to status, but this page won't tell me that. AirCanada happily up sold me on preferred seats for my party of four. Meanwhile, here's the available seat map. Preferred seats have a star. Of course this information wasn't available when I started, and prices may have changed.

  My oldest loves reading. We worked with him on reading for a while, kept at it, then one day his interest sky rocketed like a tech bro’s expected revenue graph. It’s great, I’m proud! I found myself wondering if I could turn him on to any books I’ve loved. Nothing too big, but a classic paperback would be perfect. Terry Pratchett’s Disc World Series came to mind. So I grabbed one to reread before suggesting it. Alas! More sex jokes than I remembered. They’re tame, but more than he can handle.
