  @jardo@townwizard.net Yeah… How about tax to income ratio as vote multiplier? You’re a billionaire but paid $1m in taxes, you get 0.001 vote. You're a normie paying 40% taxes, you get 0.4 votes. You’re out of job but tax office is still onto you you get infinite votes, but to not break the counting let's cap it at, say, 100.

  @jardo@townwizard.net I do and I love it. I think people should use it more. In particular I reach for it in two cases. More expressive condition check. E.e. in MyClass(field: 42). This can be used in both a case, and an if.Complex destructuring. E.g. config => {deeply: {nested: {user:, password:}}} to get user and password in local vars.

  @jardo@townwizard.net understandable. Just consider that even buying one track gives that artist more real money than you listening to them all year. Buying one album likely offsets pirating every other track by that artist. I’m not condoning piracy per se but an economic argument is surprisingly strong.

The closest to those communities is Discord servers but for me it's not the same. Classic forums are slower and more async, more conducive to thoughtful replies.   @bitboxer@mastodon.social I don’t think deep linking is missing per se. It’s just not the type of data that a map usually has. I thought it might be a good starting point. Like, groups stores by chain name and manually work out linking scheme for a few more popular ones in the country of interest. You probably will have to use some sort of api to translate isbn to a link as in my experience most don’t use isbn in urls. Like, you can search by isbn but you get internal id in the url.

  @skillstopractice@mastodon.social I’m not sure I grasp the distinction. To me it looks like terms for more or less the same thing just from different eras. Program feels more complete, finished. But that’s probably an artifact of its time. Back in the time you couldn’t have a daily auto update so you had to ship at least somewhat finished thing. Now software is ever changing, in constant flux, but still every instance is a complete “program”.

But also some people want to get to the place 42 km away and don’t really want to run. Similarly some people want to practice software development and others only want the software. In this metaphor you still get to the place but faster and less sweaty. You’re not wrong but also not everyone needs to become a software developer or a marathon runner.

  @halfbyte@ruby.social I sort of agree on the LLM part but let me push back a little on the complexity point. I don’t think complexity in absolute terms has a high floor. There’s a lot of software that can be a simple rails app with simple db and a few views. Like, you can spin up a blog in 15 min, it’s not that complex. An app can be a web page of simple HTML with a single inline script. There’s a lot of software of this level of complexity that was never made. Market too small or problem too n...
