  Note to self: never read ever again any introduction to any book of fiction. The genius that wrote the introduction to the Penguin Classics edition of Tolstoy’s “The Death of Ivan Ilyich and Other Stories” literally spoiled me the ending of Anna Karenina.   After craving some more Moby Dick I ended up reading a 2025 novel by E. Rutherford called "North Sun". Very well written and definitely lots of connections to Melville's work (honestly if I hadn't read Moby Dick so recently I wouldn't get a lot North Sun's whaling lore), but in the end it didn't deliver to me.   The obsession with the King and the royal family on the BBC in the UK is akin, in my experience, to the obsession with the Pope and the catholic church in Italy on the national channels (RAI). With the difference that in Italy for some reason they’re obsessed with the English royal family too. Don’t ask me why. I despise both deeply. This gives you a perfect idea of how the “news” outlets are shaped around these parts and their relationship to power and ideology.

  To truly experience Boards of Canada's music one has to listen to it and let it simmer in the back of their mind. It's like implanting false memories into your brain and then forgetting them. The false memories will resurface at the oddest moments during your day or night, stimulating some sort of craving for something vague and unnameable, which in the end can only be satisfied by re-listening to BoC's music.   I gave a shot at LibraryThing just to see if it would be more useful to me than StoryGraph and I literally had to delete my account for how much awful that website is. It's not 2005 anymore, and sometimes that's a good thing! Also I now appreciate StoryGraph so much more, in the end I can see how much thought went into developing it. #reading #books

  Boards of Canada new release hype. I get it, I get it. Inferno seems like an appropriate title given the times we’re in. Geogaddi is pretty cool, I could listen to it on repeat (maybe I’m even doing it now). The Campfire Headphase is my second favourite so far, lots of great sounds and compositions.   The obvious reason why people rate "The Campfire Headspace" as their least favourite BoC album is because they like to suffer. Bitterness and darkness have more appeal. They sell more. I mean, TCH is great, possibly my favourite, just not dark at all, but quite shiny and happy, radiant. And what's wrong about it? Nothing wrong to me. It's a weird one, definitely good, but like with some other of his works I struggle because it sits in that weird spot between #jazz and #electronic, ensemble music and solo musician, improvisation and complete lack of it as in computer music.   Hot take: Boards of Canada are a second-tier act. I just will never get the hype. I don't mind them, but they're just background music for me, no matter how much I look into that they offer an aesthetic experience that feels like it should talk to me, but never reaches me.   In a quick turn of events I've switched from qtile to KDE. Basically the first time ever I'm stable on Wayland (since I can load ICC profiles for my monitors). I gotta say KDE is just phenomenal, super customisable. I'm not using any TWM plugins, but I've recreated my virtual desktops setups and all my keybindings, so it feels like home and it's a polished and complete desktop system, for a change.   Just finished Norwegian Wood, by Haruki Murakami. I loved it. It was my first Murakami book, and it won't definitely be my last. After finishing the book I was expecting the usual backlash on the internet. Yes, I too cringed at many of the sex scenes, yes, it felt a bit heavy handed with the author's horniness. So what? Have you ever been a 20 years old man? Perfectly fitting, I'd say. This was a great coming of age story, beautifully written. #bookstodon #reading
