  Because there seems to be a bit of confusion. Open Weight LLMs (Large Language Models) is just a fancy word for "models you can download and run locally on your machines". Closed Weight is just a fancy word for MaaS, Models as a Service, that run remotely on machines from the vendor. Hope that helps! Open Source models are a very different topic. It means you not only get the trained model but also (access to) the training data itself. But that is all a bit undefined in reality. 1/2

  Yesterday I updated and rebooted my Linux servers (as I do every Friday), today I descaled and cleaned my water cooker, the ice cube maker and the Moccamaster (as I do every month, we have very hard water here in Munich). These regular chores always give me a moment of peace. No matter what happens around me, some things just have their fixed place in life and that’s a good thing. #PhilosophyMoment

  Cloudflare adds proprietary (meaning: not part of the standard/definition) extensions to robots.txt to allow sending a "Content-signal:" to inform AI-crawlers to please behave [1]. It is implemented by rewriting your existing robots.txt and prepending their stuff. While I applaud the effort, I fundamentally oppose Cloudflare rewriting robots.txt files.   Was, wenn es im August/September weiter keine ausreichende Niederschläge in Bayern gibt? Und dann alle aus dem Urlaub zurück sind und das Oktoberfest mit Millionen Gästen in München startet? Geht uns dann das Trinkwasser aus? Was für Sparmassnahmen werden dann auf uns Münchner zukommen? So langsam mache ich mir echte Sorgen. Dagegen würden klare Informationen helfen. Die finde ich aber nicht. Kann da wer helfen? Bitte keine Prepper/Doomsday Antworten.

  Die Kampagne (nicht nur) der Süddeutschen Zeitung gegen Klimaanlagen ist für mich völlig unbegreiflich. Nach fast 10.000 Hitzetoten im Juni immer noch zu empfehlen die Rollläden runterzulassen weil das schon reichen müsste finde ich unverantwortlich. Die sich dahinter verbergende "ihr seid halt irgendwie selber schuld" Mentalität ist für mich völlig weltfremd. 1/2

  It seems that Italy has a problem with understanding geography and the EU. They have added a new notification for internal border controls at all "internal air and sea borders with Spain" due to what happened in Ceuta, which is an exclave and thus not even part of Schengen. Also: the refugees have mostly left Ceuta, back to Morocco, already by now. But hey, populism is politics nowadays. Le Sigh.   So around 60000 people coming from Morocco entered the Spanish enclave Ceuta yesterday. Almost 50000 have now returned to Morocco, without too much resistance, as it seems. Am I the only one thinking this looks like a planned action to put political pressure on Spain and the EU? Italy immediately fell for it and demands more border controls.

  Hörgeräte sind ja auch Mist. Mein Vater hat übergangsweise Leihgeräte (Signia Motion C&G SP 1IX) bekommen weil seine eigenen Hörgeräte grad repariert werden. Und jetzt bimmeln diese Ersatzgeräte alle 2 Minuten weil die wohl eingestellte Testphase vorbei ist. Der Hörgeräteakustiker ist aber seit heute im Urlaub. Was macht man da? Kenne ich einen Hörgeräteakustiker im Weserbergland der das resetten kann oder den Trick kennt wie man das selbst macht? Gerne boosten.

  Hearing aid hacker needed! My father‘s hearing aids are being repaired, so the shop gave him a pair of Signia Motion C&G SP 1IX as temporary replacement. Nice. BUT. It seems they were configured as trial devices, this wasn’t mentioned to my father. The trial period has ended a few hours ago, so now they play an annoying melody every 2 minutes and we cannot stop this. The hearing aid specialist is on vacation until end next week. So. Anyone knows how to fix this?

  Random tip. On a rpm based Linux system like Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Rocky, Fedora etc, you can find the rpm package that installed a certain file/binary with `rpm -qf /path/to/file`. This is an ancient way of doing that, but really fast, as it uses local info from the rpmdb :).
