RE: https://mastodon.social/@elementary/116935879957436125 We fight injustice and we friend society; thus I believe Inkscape is also a social warrior project. I mean why even bother turning up to do this much free labour if it wasn't *for* something important? Why want for change if that change isn't any better for the people in your society? Or the world? Or yourself even? Libertarians give me gas.

All free software maintainers will be randomly assigned a local user. You must go to their house and watch them install your rust crate, python wheel, flatpak and you must watch them use it all the way through. If they like it you will be given a cup of tea. Library maintainers will be assigned a nearby junior developer and script writers will be assigned a fresh faced junior admin. I don't make the rules, this is just the law now. #foss #oss #code #design #ux

#wordCup It's always about politics. You can have trump lifting the trophy with Argentina; a friendly corrupt country that loves them some orange politics. Or Spain, who told trump to go fuck himself over his boondoggle Iran War faster than any other EU country. I know what I'd prefer.

RE: https://mas.to/@gabrielesvelto/116692226383767669 #PayForFreeSoftware The reason we want normal people to pay for their Free Software is because we want normal people to direct the priorities and direction of projects. Not programmers, not business gurus and certainly not hedge funds and billionaire monsters. Who pays chooses. If we want this Free Software economics problem to find a solution then we must be willing to take an extremely sobering look in the mirror to see the people caus...

Finally got the energy to do a new #inkscape update video. Come check out the round up of news: https://youtu.be/A0kTxm-JNjQ Overall, I don't mind saying that the money is drying up. I know you folks will appreciate that, a lot of people are in the same boat; folks getting fired and the economy just not healthy. So if you're in a position to help my Inkscape funding project, now would be a great time to join over on liberapay or patreon.

Your health insurance premium is tax Your car repayments is tax Your data center electricity surcharge is tax You voted for them to reduce your taxes but all they did was privatise taxes and call them by other names. You pay more now then you ever would under any public system. A vote for tax reduction is a vote for hidden taxes.

RE: https://stefanbohacek.online/@stefan/116890406198614167 This is an unreasonably good article about color, seeing in the real world with examples and a story to tell about the hunt for colors. If you have a few minutes to spare, maybe a cozy nook; go fill your head will colors. @CmykStudent

I have no idea what #inkscape 1.5 is going to look like when it's done, except for a massive pile of features and changes. It's going to be quite something. Anyway, here's a tiny tiny useful Node editing feature. Holding Alt to constrain the node to the path itself.

I'm going to sleep. If anyone is wondering why the #inkscape website is down, it's because it's being crushed by AI bots again, so I've taken it offline. I tried to put in more ip-blocks, and then tried to install Anubis. But I'm not a sysadmin and so this is just taking time to do. Can't do much of it tonight (this morning) so I'm afraid it's staying offline.

It's raining One man has a million umbrellas, the people have none. It's raining The man commands the media to say how people are too lazy to will themselves dry these days. It's raining The government operates a sophisticated office of umbrella protection to reduce all the umbrella crime. They only patrol a large pile of umbrellas. It's raining Politicians promise umbrella manufacturing and all umbrellas will double! They keep their promise and the pile is doubled. It...

Aw poor @GIMP; Linus and co were so careful not to turn up the heat on any open source projects trying their best. But Gimp still got both barrels. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK02VOGWEv0 Thing is, I think we all know the problems in our own projects. And with the resources we'd figure out these problems. @CmykStudent

Did you know that #Inkscape is the biggest project on #GitLab after the gitlab codebase itself? After moving from #launchpad and #bzr, we don't have the energy to move the project again. So it looks like we'll be putting up with whatever GitLab decides to do to us. A large complicated and, ingrown project like ours would need some very special attention to move. Unfortunately. #foss #Freesoftware #opensource

#Swapped got mediocre reviews compared to #Hoppers; I dissent. The basic story is pedestrian, yes; but it gets significant points for being visually inventive, discusses in-group/out-group, immigration (stop the boats!), the pain we inflict on each other and how to achieve forgiveness for being a part of a structural problem, not just an individual wrong. I also enjoyed some smaller writing components that bucked tropes, but could easily be overlooked in a rush to dismiss the #film #cartoon

Dear real internet. Because search is so terrible and failing me: do you know of any LibreOffice Calc ChartType Add-ins? Basically the selection of chart types is pretty rotten and I'd like to be able to generate other things. But I can't find anything. And it would surprise me greatly if such a customisation had never been achieved before. Especially since the in built options are so basic. #help #libreoffice #chart #graphics #data

"Can you come show us how to make pies" they asked me. A local American café run by a friend that struggles to find decent pies in Boston Then what kind of pie to do? It needed to be very easy to make; while being quintessentially British and not something Americans have seen before Butter Pie! A N. British pie with potato, onion, butter and pepper. That's it! So I spent today with a hair net on making and teaching pie making in a commercial kitchen. #food #pie #englishfood #...

I opened my front door and a gray squirrel was right there, centre of the porch not a meter away. It looked right at me; then without reason put one little paw on its heart like it was pledging fealty. We stood there staring at each other for half a minute before without anxiety, it scampered towards the hedge. Q: Am I required now to buy it a Tippy bow? And while I have the proportional programming strength of a programmer is that enough for squirrel shenanigans?

What I'm interested in is: Are they weak when there's sufficient money on the table? or credulous to to how money shapes decision making? I think I would have just spun the money out into a third party who hired their own contractors who would b...

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Blender/116482997785333001 Reputation is one of the most valuable things any social project has. It can inspire people to do great things together. Money is, *waves hand*, helpful; but just a thing. It's not valuable in itself, only in what things it can be transacted to get people to do for you. If you trade inspiration for transactional power, then you no longer need to lead people, just money. And money just isn't as valuable as people. #Blender #PayF...

Advice please. There's a criticism that a prohibition on AI use in Inkscape would inhibit a new contributor's understanding of such a large codebase. There is no moral model I know of. But I am sympathetic to anyone to wants to understand a codebase as large and byzantine as ours and uses tools they feel help them overcome what would otherwise be an insurmountable amount of complexity. Is there a policy which would accommodate assistive, investigative modes without permitting authori...

I find it interesting that the non-technical people have been replying to their rejection emails with "thanks for the opportunity" etc. But very few of the programmers are. I wonder if there's an etiquette difference, or age perhaps?
