Did you know that #Inkscape is the biggest project on #GitLab after the gitlab codebase itself? After moving from #launchpad and #bzr, we don't have the energy to move the project again. So it looks like we'll be putting up with whatever GitLab decides to do to us. A large complicated and, ingrown project like ours would need some very special attention to move. Unfortunately. #foss #Freesoftware #opensource

@doctormo@floss.social That is a bummer. I don't imagine I have the kind of resources/attention the project needs, but any support that's within my power to offer, I'll do so. I know there's more involved than just getting repos moved, but FWIW, I know Codeberg has automated GitLab migration workflow (but haven't used myself yet) https://docs.codeberg.org/advanced/migrating-repos/#migrating-from-services

@doctormo@floss.social hey @Codeberg@social.anoxinon.de, think you have the community/ network to help this project out? The Lessons learned could be given back to other projects (or integrated into migration tooling, of course). Ps: I see others mentioning CI/CD setups tailored for Gitlab as a sticky problem.

@doctormo@floss.social totally understandable, if unfortunate. can y'all use that position to be vocal about how much their new policy sucks, tho? seems like Inkscape has the potential to be a very loud voice about that! ๐Ÿ’œ

@doctormo@floss.social Not saying this is "wrong", but what are the reasons for that, I would imagine that most data on such a forge is either just code or portable? So which parts are not easy to move and why? If you have the time to answer... it's just a little curiosity on my part.

@doctormo@floss.social turns out #Inkscape is the only project that could even keep me there. Curiosity of knowing how long it'll remain there: sparked.
