Listening to someone on YouTube talk about how it&#39;s inherently easier to find social connection through negativity because connections over positive stuff is more difficult/requires more vulnerability, and while I think that&#39;s true for a lot of people, it seems like it&#39;s driven by cultural trends. I feel the opposite of this (it&#39;s easier to connect over positivity, and sharing frustrations feels like sharing a vulnerability, so I avoid that unless it feels reall...

A month later than I was aiming for, but here&#39;s something I made to celebrate #SoftwareFreedomDay 2025. From 2006 - 2015, I ran SFD events, providing a venue to showcase and publicly celebrate what people in the local community were doing with #FOSS. It was a rewarding time, and we introduced many hundreds of people to the ideas and ideals of the Free Software movement. I had an upcoming election candidate call me to ask what I thought was important, and I pitched a national shutdown until our government takes action to openly condemn genocide and illegal war, and support those suffering these atrocities. Every time they tried to say that they wanted to focus on stuff closer to home, I reiterated that democracy is about participation and representation, and who we choose to be/how our nation acts is very much a local issue, a state issue, and a national issue.

Just finished reading Ann Druyan&#39;s Cosmos: Possible Worlds, a sequel to Carl Sagan&#39;s 1980 book Cosmos, and a companion piece to the 2020 TV series. The original Cosmos was very impactful for a young Cheese. Sagan&#39;s voice of and for humanity instilled love and wonder for the universe and all that has existed and will exist within.
