As most of what I’ve feared has come or is quickly coming to pass, I’ve decided it is good for me to disconnect for at least a while from this avatar and platform, which I have over the years strongly entangled with such news. This place has been a very important source of information and laughter as well as sometimes distress, and I’ll miss it—and you all—for the camaraderie, joyfulness and support. I really want to be more (and with more attention) with the people I love and connect with in...

Oracle had a whopping 1,434 unique CVEs across 334 products, many of them likely for years lying around in their closed-source super-secret enterprise grade software you should totally keep on buying from them. Oracle left gaping vulnerabilities in products such as Database Server, APEX, Autonomous Health Framework, Essbase, Global Lifecycle Management, GoldenGate, NoSQL Database, Spatial Studio, SQL Developer, TimesTen In-Memory Database, Application Testing Suite, Commerce, Communications, Co...

https://hermit-tech.com/blog/ai-mania-is-eviscerating-global-decisionmaking Really good article for those of us who are AI sceptic (I’m keeping it polite). You are right, they are wrong, try to keep your sanity. About keeping your job—and whether you’d actually want to—also some solid advise at the end.

The amount of energy people spend on maintaining their cognitive dissonance, if not plain denial, is truly staggering. Every single day, and in some cases for decades. When I think about the conscious and subconscious effort to actively deny their direct experience. Just… wow.

Are you ready for #ChatControl (the rushed 1.0 sequel!), where the services you use track who you talk to, what you say, what you share, and when, to be shared with whomever they want, whenever they want? No? Maybe not? Great! Send an email to the people who can stop this: https://fightchatcontrol.eu/#contact-tool If you just want to email everyone involved to tell them what you think about chatcontrol in general, #FightChatControl has you covered too: https://fightchatcontrol.eu/downloads...

@phil@fed.bajsicki.com @munin@infosec.exchange true. I’m sorry, I’m just so… tired of the bullshit, and frankly a little desperate of seeing smart people on- and offline wasting talent and effort having to deal with it. I’ll step out of the thread. 😔

@phil@fed.bajsicki.com @munin@infosec.exchange An LLM doesn’t actually do anything, except copy-blend-paste from the training set based on the “weights” of words in your prompt. Exhibit A: promting it to compute an md5. Your freaking washing machine can calculate an MD5 hash (it is probably running some form of Linux). Side note: the response says “by hand”. Anthropomorphise much? 🤦♂️ Exhibit B: prompting it to give the fraction notation of a calculation I found somewhere (I was trying to hel...

The autistic community at large would be so much better served if Baron-Cohen (and colleagues!) focussed on self-healing and acceptance of their (and/or their loved ones’) neurodiversity, instead of trying to “understand and fix” us, driven by whatever childhood trauma is behind their “research”. https://www.theguardian.com/society/2026/jul/05/autism-extreme-male-brain-simon-baron-cohen @autistics@fedigroups.social #actuallyAutistic

That whole #JADEPUFFER feels like someone pointed a LLM based CTF toolkit against a (claimed) live target running an old unpatched langflow. It's attacks were regurgitated stuff; like snippets from CTF and PoC writeups, down to the variables used. The "ransomware" part is what I'll dub cyber-LARPing, where it destroyed MYSQL content by encrypting it with a random key, didn't store the key, didn't exfil any data, and dropped a bitcoin address in the ransomware note s...

What if, and hear me out on this, we would put in the effort to make all the code "boilerplate code" AND freely available under a free-for-any-use permit? Developers (including everyone just doing programming stuff) could actually get to work on the problems where intelligence is needed. Something like a library where all the functions that every dev has written a thousand times, are freely available and commented and tweaked to perfection by the community. Something mixing a wiki,...

@kasperd@westergaard.social @jack_daniel@mastodon.social I read the joke as “people who use genAI copy-paste responses, instead of thinking themselves”. I don’t think it was meant as a general statement about copy pasting, but I could be wrong.

I see everyone looking for VPN services to move to, after yet another for-profit leadership turns out to be fascist*. Meanwhile, actors in the cyberdomain, as well as AI grifters, have figured out how to do this: operational relay box networks or ORBs. Basically, VPN-by-botnet. This gave me an idea. Instead of spending money on another VPN company, I’d rather spend money on voluntarily adding nodes to a have a federated anonymising VPN. Yes, obviously I mean spending my money to set up TOR...

Nee. “leeftijdscontrole” gaat niet werken. Het is ook een directe schending van Artikel 24 van het EU-Handvest van de Grondrechten: Kinderen hebben recht op de bescherming en de zorg die nodig zijn voor hun welzijn. Zij mogen vrijelijk hun mening uiten. […]En het is “Ausweis, bitte!” voor ons allemaal bij elke online handeling. — No. “Age verification” is not going to work. It is also a direct violation of the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights: Children shall have the right to such prote...

Before the #vulnpocalypse, there will be the #vulnslopalypse. As someone who has dealt with vulnerability reports in all shapes, forms and levels of veracity for at least a decade, I posit that's where we will hurt the most, for the longest time, and without reaching symmetry. For the old farts: remember the burpsuite #bugbounty submissions? That, but at unprecedented scale, and these you can't easily filter out. #vulnpocalypse #Mythos #infosec #vulnerability #vulnslopocalypse

I would rrrrrreaally want Europe to immediately start reverse engineering—and subsequently start improving on—the sodium-ion batteries coming out of China. Benefit for all over intellectual property, or some justified tit-for-tat, whatever you want to call it. This is the technology we’ve been waiting for to switch from gas and coal to wind and solar, without the rare minerals etc. currently required. And it delivers better performing and less combustible EVs. Also a nice benefit. https://w...
