I am 36 years old today. :dsh:

Hey #Fediverse friends, quick question: who out there is creating original videos for Loops? I’d like to follow you, and possibly add you to Starter Kits to help aid discovery.

Huh…so, some interesting progress was made today with #Godot. I’m still getting a feel for how exactly I’ll be doing 3D interiors for environments. I decided to make a super crappy house with the Home Builder 5.1 plugin for Blender, and threw in some placeholder furniture from an asset pack. The walls didn’t come through on export, but the floors and decor did. Realistically, I’ll probably try to reduce meshes to individual pieces of furniture, and try to just assemble it all in-engine. #GameD...

I’m slightly irked that more creative tools aren’t available on Linux. 😞 If ZBrush or Character Creator or an affordable copy of Divine Cut were available, that would be so fantastic. I know I could try to run them with Wine, but…eh. I feel like the Linux desktop is actually pretty great for media production and game development these days. I can do most of what I want with FOSS tools! But…it’s a much more challenging path.

I’m so tired of being sick all the time. Especially on my days off. 😞

Weird 3D #Gamedev question: when designing 3D environments for your game, how do you put it all together in your engine? Do you design it all it Blender or a similar tool, before exporting the whole thing, or do you assemble it piecemeal in your game?

#Gamedev headache of the day: retargeting animations in Blender. It’s supposed to be fairly straightforward: use a tool to check the bones between an animated and non-animated skeleton, make sure they match up, copy over animation keyframes in a way that automatically refers to the bones that don’t have animation yet. Sounds easy enough, but there’s so much that can go wrong! For some reason, the tool gets confused, and the model I’m trying to animate is walking around with his arms crossed,...

Hey peeps, sorry for not following up on @spectra. I know that it’s down, and I probably know what’s causing it again. I will try to get it back in working order within the next day or so, my health hasn’t been the greatest, and I’ve got a lot going on in my personal life. I’m sorry.

Due to finances, there’s a big chance I might not make it out to #FediCon this year. It’s a bummer, but money is tight and I have to focus on surviving. I still absolutely recommend going, it’s a wonderful event and there’s some great people there.

Yay, got #Bonfire set up in a local dev environment! 🥳

It’s weirdly difficult to search for biblical Renaissance paintings. So many of the results are either behind a stock art paywall, or just straight up AI slop. The only reason I’m bringing this up is because @tchambers and I are collaborating on a We Distribute article following up on The 7 Deadly UX Sins. The hardest part has involved scouring public domain repositories for media that I can use!

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always been in favor of the vaguely Satanic Fediverse symbol that kind of looks like a falling star. The Asterism just doesn’t have the same rebellious juice.

Every now and then, I get accused of using AI in my writing. It’s weird, because I go through great pains to write and compose everything the old-fashioned way? Any time I write an article, there’s a huge amount of research that goes into it. The best that I can figure is that my particular writing style (news, technical articles) has been slurped up by AI and the patterns have been broadly replicated? Alternatively, maybe my writing style is informed by details that are now unpopular due to A...

Weird question: is anyone writing federated software for public libraries? As in, the public places where you check out books? I feel like this could be a valid use-case, but haven’t ever really heard anything about it. It would be interesting if libraries could federate their book catalogues, maybe even offer links to download digital books from another library in their network?

The ActivityPub For WordPress project is, in a lot of ways, one of the most impressive projects in the space for what it has accomplished. Every release gets better and better, and there’s a robustness to the project that I can’t help but admire. Making ActivityPub federation work with the myriad of WordPress configurations out there is nothing short of a miracle, and I’m forever grateful for the work @pfefferle and the team put in.

If there’s any #Godot developers out there making 3D games, I could kind of use some help / advice on how to fix this weird issue I’m having. Camera is basically attached to a SpringArm and mounted on a pivot, the pivot rotation is what’s used for camera rotation. When switching perspectives, a piece of code is supposed to line up the pivot rotation to the player_mesh rotation. Except it seems to be flipped when I face certain directions?! https://codeberg.org/deadsuperhero/godot-hybridcam/is...

The cool thing about online dog groups is that all you do is share pictures of dogs and talk about things you love about your dogs.

Once again, I humbly come to you to ask: do you know of any bloggers that write regularly about the #Fediverse, #ActivityPub, #ATproto, or anything of that nature? As the network grows, it feels like it’s harder and harder to find individual voices and perspectives. If you’re writing stuff about the network, its evolution, the culture, and the people on it, I’m interested in following you.

The #ActivityPub for #WordPress team is just crushing it. They just released 8.0.0 of the integration. It’s getting better all the time. Huge thanks to @pfefferle for amazing work! https://activitypub.blog/2026/03/05/8-0-0-smash-that-like-button/

Is federation broken on our instance? Seems like stuff hasn’t been getting out over the past few days.

Hey, it looks like federation might be fixed! Apparently it was out for a few days. 🥺

Huh, so the latest @funkwhale build…kind of federates with Bandwagon? Can’t really find any of the actual content, but there’s Actor discovery. //cc @benpate

I really wish @element offered a dedicated integration for Webhooks. I know there’s a third party bot thing that I can host myself, but it would be so much cleaner to just have it right there in the UI for integrations. Being able to hook into a code repository or OpenCollective would be so, so useful for making little chat messages.

Trying to figure out how best to modernize We Distribute’s site theme. I’ve been experimenting with the customization system in the twentytwentyfive base theme WordPress ships with and…it’s kind of good, but just not quite where it needs to be. Right now, it’s all held together with a crusty expired paid theme. It needs a facelift. I’m not sure if I want to write my own theme from scratch, but a lot of paid themes hard-code so much stuff that I don’t need or want.

I think the #ActivityPub client-to-server API is extremely important and underrated. I’m glad to see the SWF and W3C group prioritizing it, because I think it has the potential to fix something that’s kind of broken on the #Fediverse: too many accounts, on too many platforms that really ought to be clients. Here’s the rub, though: you need the big players in the space to support it. Mastodon needs to support it. Pixelfed and PeerTube need to support it. So, how do you get the big existing pr...
