For maybe the 3 people on here who care, Best Baguette (at least the one in #Beaverton #PDX) is now offering chè sâm bổ lượng: https://vickypham.com/blog/vietnamese-refreshing-iced-drinkdessert-with-seaweed-lotus-longan-and-mung-bean-che-sam-bo-luong/ The Vietnamese girl working there assured me that it was “Asian sweet”, and I can confirm 😂 It was still a tad too sweet for me but their chè đậu trắng was great. But my all-time favorite is chè khoai môn! ❤️

It was also very cool to see Bike Friday bikes in person! Unfortunately, the man at the booth was busy talking to the other man, and they didn’t have a demo bike for folding/riding so all I did was lift one, but it was amazingly light! Apparently the pakiT (presumably with the ultralight frame upgrade) is only 15 pounds! #MADEBikeShow https://bikefriday.com/product/bike-friday-pakit-compact-folding-bike/

RE: https://lgbtqia.space/@m/116885837961672202 My parents’ house in the SF Bay Area was built in the 1940s and we still have the original pipes, so we have a filter system at the exit point (the faucet). Pipe replacements are expensive! 💸💸 Though I still prefer this to the situation in Mexico, where no one trusts the tap water and everyone drinks bottled water (and have garrafónes at home). Or the situation in Europe (though I’ve only been to the UK, Ireland, and Italy) where the concept of “...

I gambled on a container of unmarked rice I had in the pantry, and made fake clay pot rice (with dried Chinese sausages, tofu puffs, and shiitake mushrooms)… it turned out okay, but I’m pretty sure this is some variety of basmati rice. Was I supposed to use jasmine rice? Or the whatever generic long grain that I use for arroz rojo? My Mexican partner says “rice is just rice”, but I grew up in a medium grain japonica variety household (thank you Kokuho Rose farmers 🌾❤️) so it definitely matters!

Yesterday my partner ran with two of his friends from Leif Erikson to St. Johns and to the University of Portland, ending up at Cathedral Coffee to complete a DIY half marathon. My job was to take his car from Leif Erikson to St Johns and stand by for pickup instructions. There was a farmers market (and later on, a parade for some reason) so it was rather crowded, but I still ran a nice slow 5K and enjoyed all the nice views 🏔️❤️

RE: https://mstdn.ca/@jdlh/116531949674146227 Let’s say I switch my handle to Japanese and people want to mention me (without replying to one of my posts). How are they supposed to do that if they 1) can’t read Japanese, and 2) don’t have the Japanese keyboard installed, even if they could read it? The expectation is for them to go to my profile and copy/paste every single time? Or are we assuming that 100% of interactions will be replies? “Inclusive” is a nice buzzword, but the Latin alphabet...

Hi #vegan friends 🌱 I have a huge can of jackfruit in brine that I’m hoping to use up in at least five different ways. Please send me your favorite (and hopefully failproof) recipes! Extra bonus points for any Mexican carnitas recipes, because I’m going out to get a few teleras at my local tienda later. I also have an Instant Pot available to use. Thank you!

Some people on here use “neurotypical” like a slur, stereotyping as if we all love the imprecise AI/LLM “search” we have now over the precise Boolean search we used to have, because that’s just how our imprecise NT brains work. Nope, plenty of us hate this bullshit too! 🙃

Got the "#PDXSocial hosting is over the plan limit (80GB)" email so checking into what might be impacting our database size... I've been a bit concerned about sportsbots.xyz because apparently some of their accounts have millions of followers, but that shouldn't impact us, right...? UPDATE: We're now at 66GB 🙌 1. tootctl status remove (ran this one with --clean_followed and --days) 2. tootctl accounts prune (didn't run this one, yet) 3. Setting...

Today I drove from the Grant Park area (my partner carpooled with his friends to The Dalles) > Whole Foods > Golden Hour Coffee Co. > Goodwill (donated, got a plant pot) > Cedar Mill Library > home (ate lunch, re-potted a plant, took a quick nap) > BottleDrop Redemption Center > Uwajimaya > Target > Home Depot (didn’t buy anything; no coconut coir instead of peat moss) > Trader Joe’s > home. My partner ran the México Imparable half marathon in Oaxaca, which was race #3 out of 4. He’s now pumped up to register for #4 in Creel, Chihuahua… in June! ☀️🔥 At ~8000 feet elevation!! https://mexicoimparable.com But the Oaxaca race was terribly organized (the bib pickup took 2 hours, and they had ~7 porta-potties for hundreds of people on the day of the race with no toilet paper or handwashing stations, so my partner had to go back to our Airbnb a block away) so I honestly wouldn’t recommend...

I’m not particularly feminine (I don’t wear makeup, do my nails, wear jewelry/pretty clothes, or shave every inch of my body every day… all I use are lotion and sunscreen) so I feel very weird when I go to Japan and see the blatant patriarchal pressure on women through constant relentless fearmongering masquerading as “advertising”. I don’t know what “being a woman” means, but it’s sure as hell not whatever that is!

Today I finally had enough energy to go grocery shopping and make my all-purpose vegan tom yum soup 😋 though “tom yum flavored vegetable ginger soup” is more accurate, because I threw in 2-3 tablespoons of fresh ginger into the pot to aid my recovery.

RE: https://social.wildeboer.net/@jwildeboer/116160863041813120 Open registration is a model for corporate social media, where the goal is to host anyone and everyone to vacuum up all their data, which in turn generates revenue for them to store this infinite data forever. And on that note - please auto-delete posts when possible, please and thank you 🐘💜
