#3GoodThings -earbuds button stopped working on the way to the store, but the same earbuds were 30% off at that store -an attractive young woman was checking me out at the self-checkout. I quit while I was ahead... before she realized she was gazing at a fossil. ๐ -I've been haunted by the most wonderful smell for the last few hours. No idea what it is but, despite that it seems to be emanating from me, it seems to have survived a shower and change of clothes.

#3GoodThings For yesterday... -met up with an old friend and her kids for a very enjoyable time on a patio -got to work (aka chat) with my favourite co-volunteer. This pleasure was matched by seeing her undisguised happiness when she realized we'd be working together. -went for a nice dusk walk with a friend and her dog Not sure what I did to deserve such a nice day, but... more please!

#3GoodThings -felt extremely tense today but a long walk and powerful breeze took some of the edge off. As I sat on a chair outside afterward, a rabbit came very close to me to snack on some clovers. I imagined it was a gift to make me feel better. -I was able to stifle my tension around a loved one so as not to ruin the end of her day, which she had been thoroughly enjoying. Phew! -received a text from a formerly close friend, thanking me for an encouraging message I sent a while ago and se...

If my interactions on Mastodon ever seem disjointed... (1) I'm a disjointed kinda guy (2) with the web app on the phone, when I type a reply, only the first few lines of what I'm replying to are visible. So I have to go back and forth between your message and the one I'm trying to type. It gets disorienting. (Sometimes I'll actually copy the whole message into my notes app and type the reply under it so that I can see everything at once.)

#3GoodThings For yesterday... -had a delightfully strange experience with a soup-kitchen patron -went out for a birthday dinner for a co-volunteer. Had a great time with the people and thoroughly enjoyed the food. -watched most of The Wiz, a 1978 version of The Wizard of Oz starring Diana Ross, which I had never heard of. Michael Jackson plays the Scarecrow. I've never really liked musicals, but I've also never seen one before with a Quincy Jones soundtrack.

#3GoodThings -went for a spontaneous long walk. I enjoyed the walk but also the fact that a trek that would have seemed too long when I was a teen is a breeze well into my 40s. -woke up a drowsy panhandler by giving her the dollar in my pocket. She seemed glad. I recognized her from the soup kitchen but don't think she recognized me. -all the little tools and pieces of hardware that hold things together

#3GoodThings -got paid more than twice the agreed-upon amount for some simple chores someone asked me to do. Not sure why, but I accept! -I think I overheard two patrons at the soup kitchen agreeing that I'm a nice guy. I pretended not to notice but it lit me up. -I'm enjoying learning the Python programming language. Not sure what I'll use it for, if anything, but it's fun.

#3GoodThings -last night I watched Out of the Past (1947). Wow. Perfect in every way, in my opinion. It was kind of providential because I actually sat down to watch another movie but the TV guide got it wrong. -went in for an unscheduled shift at the soup kitchen and enjoyed seeing my people -played some frisbee with my nephew. It's probably the only athletic thing I could match him at.

#3GoodThings -worked with a new-to-me volunteer at the soup kitchen and we got along great. She's a real class act. -my basement bedroom provides very cool respite from the heat wave -discovering that there's something in the fridge that I can have for dinner rather than cooking during a heatwave

#3GoodThings -visited a friend and was able to help with a li'l thing -great weather -had a eureka! moment that got to the root of some intense anxiety I've been feeling for the last couple of days. Not yet sure what the solution is, but at least I have something to work with.

#3GoodThings For the last couple of days... -got a lot of honest info from the optician -a soup-kitchen patron told me he thinks of me as a friend and would have me over if he had a place. It's a guy who initially rubbed me the wrong way but I eventually grew to really like. It came out of nowhere so was a nice surprise. -semi-annual deep clean of my livng area almost done -I've almost recovered from a nap that left me feeling mentally unwell. (Usually I feel pretty good.)

#3GoodThings -I did three good things today: two for other people, the third a perhaps unnecessary show of honesty -torrential downpour started shortly before I arrived at my indoor destination and stopped shortly before I left -the smell of roasting potatoes reminded me of when I was a kid

#3GoodThings -a soup-kitchen patron validated what I believe is the role I fill there. It's not just to give people food and drink. People need to feel seen. -enjoyed seeing my fellow volunteers... and eating the dessert I got to take home! (Soup-kitchen cook is very good at what he does.) -glad I'm not particularly sensitive to heat because man it is hot!

#3GoodThings -ran into one of my favourite soup kitchen patrons while I was out for a walk and chatted for 15 minutes or so. I don't like being faceless and using a pseudonym. But at the same time, the internet is forever and, especially now, there are forces scraping every tiny tidbit they can to build the most complete profiles they can, on as many people as possible. I want no part of that. I only created my account to win a contest and didn't anticipate making connections with people on here. ๐ค

I'm doing some experimenting and want to know if there is a way a bash script can be executed every time a specific folder is closed graphically. Basically, I want to trigger a sequence of events when a user is finished working in Specific_Folder and clicks the X to close it, every time. Is it possible to specify the state of a directory in an if statement, or in bash scripting in general? #Bash #Linux #scripting #coding #programming

At the grocery store, you have to put a coin in the shopping cart to release it. It's a pain when you don't have a coin with you, so I started grabbing stray carts that I find in the parking lot and bringing them in for people who need them. Today I saw a volunteer from the soup kitchen at the store, looking a little lost because he didn't have a buck for the cart. I rolled my stray in front of him without announcing myself and then quickly walked away. He got a free car...

#LastNightsDream Last night I dreamed I was enjoying walking around a city, exploring. Some guy was kinda with or around me. I liked him but was wary to engage too much, for fear of losing my freedom (which is how I am in real life). Later in the dream I'm flying, and he's with me. It's a lot of fun, but intense. I'm not totally confident I can handle it and am now relying on my previously arms-length companion to keep things in check. Seems full of meaning bu...

#3GoodThings -the spiritual beliefs of the person I'm closest to are largely compatible with mine, especially where it matters most -a neighbour who I've known for 40 years and who mostly keeps to himself seemed happy to talk to me today, and I was happy to talk to him -some of the employees at the stores I visited today were good to me, despite having thankless jobs. (I thanked them.)

@ArabellaLovejoy@mastodonapp.uk Good day. I have a geographical garden question: In North America we call the whole, non-built part of the property a yard. The grass is called the lawn, and the garden (if there is one) is the area with exposed soil where we grow flowers, vegetables, etc. So in the UK, where our yard is your garden, what do you call what we call a garden?

#3GoodThings -got a good amount of exercise and had a solid mini-meditation -finally sold an item that I wanted out of the house, and pocketed over a hundred bucks -ran into someone who, last time I saw her, feared that her long-running and serious illness had taken a turn for the worse. Today she was all smiles and feeling much better.
