Took my youngest (16) to buy her own set of #tarot cards today as I have been teaching her some using my cards and she wanted her own set. Had a lovely chat with the lady in there and there was so much awesome stuff in the shop, it really made me want to get back in touch with my #pagan side. Used to consider myself a #witch (not wiccan - nothing against them it's just not my thing) but have been so out of the loop for the last 15 years. Time to get back in touch with that side of mysel...

This is a UK company who's career page I keep an eye on under my bookmark heading 'anti-AI Companies' (i've got a grand total of this 1 i've been able to find lol, if anyone would like to share lists?) Couple of jobs have popped up i'm not qualified for but someone else here might be interested in! "We stand up to tech giants and governments and for a future where technology is used to benefit everyone, not just the rich and powerful." https://www.foxglove.or...

Random question for any #fathers here. Do you think that paying the minimum you can get away with in child maintenance, calling your kid once a week to ask the same questions (what are you watching on TV, what are you having for dinner) and seeing your kid once or twice a year for 15 YEARS is acceptable? Asking for a friend who might be me.

WHY ARE MEN LIKE THIS. ('Not all men' me at your peril) My last 'straight' relationship before coming out as a lezza was 2004-2011. 2005 we bought a house together in Taffs Well (Wales), by which I mean I agreed to pay half the mortgage but was made to sign a document stating I would have no financial claim to the property should we separate. His brother was a finance dude and they both convinced me this was fine and normal 2007 We started trying for a baby, which was his id...

@hmm_cook@universeodon.com Nope. I learned to deal with stuff on my own because no-one ever supported me. Positive side is I 'get shit done' and can deal with pretty much everything. I'm a tough cookie. Negative is I have never properly processed all the shit I had to go through with no support, and that manifests as pushing people away and not trusting anyone. I would love to learn these skills you mention, but wouldnt even know where to start.

Had our company allhands yesterday. They were talking about all the wonderful AI tools they are introducing to 'help' us. Someone (not me, though I wish it had been haha) asked a question along the lines of "with all these new AI tools, can we have transparency on what it is costing and is there a plan for when the cost inevitably becomes unaffordable?" The main AI fan in the leadership team scoffed, said in a sulky tone "dont agree with inevitable" and went on to...

Seeing some posts using the hashtag #aiSlop that are pro-AI. I asked someone a few days ago why, and they said it was so people could filter out pro-AI posts. Ive been following the hashtag for some time and have not been aware of this. So, is it for pro-AI people to use so those of us who don't want to read their AI nonsense can filter, or is it a hashtag to discuss AI slop?

Hey all I've dumped the #Python course I originally started via Coursera as it was really badly planned. Instead, I've started the #OpenLearn (Open Uni) short course "Learn to code for data analysis" which uses Pythion and looks pretty good so far. They want me to use Anaconda with notebooks and Jupytr (sp). So i've downloaded full version of #Anaconda but there appears to be a lot of slop installed in the package, 562 apps. I'm pretty sure some of it is AI related...

You want to know how man can be allies to women? Our CPO Ed is on BBC radio 5 at 11:30 today (uk time) talking about the role of male ambassadors/allies and the partnership he is building between the company I work for and #HASSL I can vouch for ED, he is a solid ally and not just for kudos. He puts his heart and soul into making the work place a better place for women and minorities, most recently introducing extra days off for those with menstrual and menopause issues. Dude is a legend. πŸ₯³...

@site_admin@newsmast.community Why are you boosting posts 'across the fediverse' without the posters permission, and ignoring NoIndex in bios? I want to know exactly where these posts are being shared to.

I fear I'm becoming addicted to the light breeze of a tower fan on lowest setting. I have 3. One beside the TV that sends that lush cool breeze my way when chilling out. 1 by my desk when I'm working or gaming. 1 on the table at the end of my bed that bathes me in gentle air as I sleep. As soon as I am out of the radius of one of these fans, I instantly feel stressed and out of place even if not hot. This has been going on for about 6 weeks and I don't think I can say goodbye to t...

Finally had my #physio consultation, 4 months after surgery. Not too bad a wait in the grand scheme of things I guess. Quick recap: For 5 years I had chronic lower back pain that got worse over time, reducing my activity and mobility until I needed a walking stick and weighed around 17.5 stone. Then a melon sized ovarian cyst was discovered (by accident when I had a post-menopausal bleed) that I believe had been putting pressure on my lower spine. Cyst was removed in March and back pain complet...

Hey all! I've signed up for a free 2 week course, an introduction to #Python as thanks to all the wonderful suggestions last week, that is what I have chosen to learn :) My question is, is there an alternative to Microsoft Visual Studio Code that is not connected to Microsoft, Google and doesnt push AI?? I had a look at Colab but it seems connected to google/gemini. Thanks!

Remember that meme that went around a year or so ago .. "Wanna come back to my place? I'll put the heating on!" Now it's air con. Now it's heat or eat, as well as cool or school (uniform). I was lucky to find a cheap portable air con unit on eBay a couple months ago. Using it as much as I had to the last couple weeks has cost me double on the leccy. I'm almost lucky enough to afford it, though it's gonna be tight. I know many can't. In the UK we live in...

Hey all. I've always been interested in learning to code properly. I can use VBA sufficiently well as that's all i've been required to use in my work. I'm thinking now is a good time to learn something else and get good at it, without any AI or 'vibe' coding. I think there's about to be a need for more people who can code properly. Anyway, what would be the best one to learn? I'm a little overwhelmed by all the choices! No particular career path in mind yet, s...

I've been a rock chick, I've been a punk, I've been a new age hippy, I've been a butch with long hair. I've been everything but me. I'm starting to wonder if the me that is most comfortable in baggy jeans and shirts with no make up and my hair pulled back really knows that my masculine side is crying to be seen. I don't think I'm NB but I'm definitely not feminine even if I sometimes feel in the mood for flowery tops and make up and glowing flowing wavy hair...

If you have anything to do with #websitedevelopment please PLEASE provide an easy to spot option to switch to #lightMode 😭 It seems to be very fashionable at the moment to present everything in dark mode and it literally hurts. I cant read it. And I know i'm not alone.

Dating apps are rarely truly free and track a lot of shit. Been thinking about setting up a good old fashioned phpbb forum for #queer and #neurodivergent #dating in the UK. I've experience with this from back in the day as I created and ran a number of very popular online forums including parenting, pagan, and Lost fan forums. Could be an interesting project at the very least. We need more old school ways of making connections that are data tracking free, moderated, free to use, not relian...

'Get on board or get left behind' can mean that if you refuse to use generative AI and/or LLM's to speed up your work, you will soon be working at a snails pace compared to your AI shagging colleagues. Deadlines will become tighter, time on task will be scrutinised and criticised, and your workload will increase. I'm discovering this in my current role. Taking 20 minutes (yep, just 20 minutes) to figure out an excel formula that wasn't working as inten...
