Tonight, our headquarters Berlaymont lights up in the colours of our shared destiny. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ Ukraine is defending the core principles that are at the heart of Europe: sovereignty, democracy, and the right to choose its own future. The EUโ€™s solidarity with Ukraine is stronger than ever.

Your hairdresser is applying chemicals to your scalp. And we have opinions about which ones. The very strong ones. Some substances once used in hair dyes were linked to serious health risks. So, we restricted them in the EU cosmetics market. No public drama. Just dangerous products replaced on salon shelves by better ones. Your colour still looks the same. The risk profile doesnโ€™t. โ€” EU Cosmetics Regulation (EC) No 1223/2009: In force since 11 July 2013 + restricted substances updates

Your mobile data shouldn't crawl just because you crossed the border. Under our โ€˜roam like at home', operators in the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway cannot โ€˜throttleโ€™ your speed abroad. If 5G is available in the country you are visiting, you must have access to it at the same quality as at home. Since January 2026, Ukraine and Moldova have also joined the EUโ€™s โ€˜roam like at home area.โ€™ Because your connection should be as smooth as your travel plans. ๐Ÿ˜Ž

With the Instant Payments Regulation now in force, all banks in the EU must process Euro transfers within 10 seconds, at no extra cost, 24/7. Banks based in non-euro countries have until 2027 to comply. We have also mandated a โ€˜Verification of Payeeโ€™ system to help stop fraudsters from getting your money. In 2014, in Europe, there was much ado about 666. That was the number of an EU law that required vacuum cleaners to use a maximum of 1,600 watts โ€“ and there was a lot of talk about the EU allegedly โ€˜โ€™banning powerful vacuum cleaners!โ€™โ€™ What actually happened is that manufacturers had to get the same suction with less power. And they did. Because when aims are clear, engineers know what theyโ€™re doing.

Under the Digital Services Act (DSA), platforms accessible to children and teens must ensure a high level of privacy, safety, and security. Our preliminary findings show that TikTok fails to meet this standard, exposing children and teens to risks including unwanted contact, cyberbullying, or predatory behaviour. If our preliminary findings are confirmed, TikTok could be issued with a fine of up to 6% of its total global annual turnover. https://link.europa.eu/bjYYbq

Every year in Europe, an estimated 4-9% of unsold textiles are destroyed before ever being worn, generating around 5.6 million tonnes of COโ‚‚ emissions. Weโ€™re putting an end to this wasteful practice. From today, large companies can no longer destroy unsold clothes, accessories and footwear. They will need to instead prioritise keeping products in use: by selling, donating, or preparing for reuse. Find out more: https://link.europa.eu/cdYmK9
