Italy and Austria united beneath the Alps 🏔️ ⚒️ With over 220 tunnel kilometres excavated, the completion of the EU co-funded Brenner Base Tunnel is one step closer! 🇦🇹 🇮🇹 Miners have now connected Austria and Italy via two main railway tunnels. The BBT will better connect Italy and Austria while boosting rail transport connections between northern and southern Europe upon completion in 2032. This is EU cooperation and engineering at its best. 🇪🇺 © Schnittraum Tirol

@EUCommission@ec.social-network.europa.eu The real challenge lies in Bavaria. It will take at least 20 years before work on the so-called Northern Access Line (Nordzulauf) even begins. After all, Germany is a country full of car fanatics, and the new transport minister is a ‘car minister’ who doesn’t want to spend any money on the railways.
