The problem with the new Apple Watch features isn't just about the technology, it's about the erosion of trust in our society. Even if you don't activate those features on your Apple Watch, even if you wear an older model, and even if you wear a completely different brand of smart watches, people might think you are recording them now. For the same reason I had to carefully choose my new glasses model to make sure they cannot be confused with Meta's Ray-Ban spy glasses, people will now look at your wrists suspiciously. These technologies that record everything around without consent dissolve the base of trust we had for each other. All of our words scrutinize, at all time, in every context. This silences us over time. This makes us feel unsafe. The problem goes well beyond technology itself, and well beyond a technical fix, it has become a cultural problem. @Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange Exactly so. I only trust hackers, tux, anarchists and kittens. I like the smaller Mastodon instances too... I must be a little naive. I live in a surveillance city. Family members leave their corporate spyware on. At the library I use Windows 11.

@Em0nM4stodon@infosec.exchange It is deeply sad and chliiing. Fundamental to societal cohesion and health is people safely talking with and greeting strangers. Even simple things like a nod or smile. This article adds to the already toxic head- and smart-phone indulgences that put self ahead of others.
