Why do #AI companies have management, instead of just letting the machines automate the work?

Not a judgement on his qualities as a leader, or humanity, but just purely on the photos I've seen, of a person I know nothing about... Victoria's new Premier Ben Carroll looks like he just came out of a clone tank, having had a crash-course of age acceleration to be "suitable" for leadership, before the emergency tank-yank. The short nose and full head of hair of youth, the puffy, pasty complexion of a face that has only now come to experience air, and gravity.

Red and solid, Vs Green and incorporeal. While most photography freezes time, when you play with longer exposures, and especially longer exposures with movement, time gains a texture; an abstraction. It can be stretched, moved through, immersed within. D'Viants Vs. @flargh@mastodon.social The words "war" and "nuclear war" were censored with a whip crack sound overlaid when that song was in general release on TV and radio here.

Re-listening to an old popculture podcast from 2011, and a segment each show catalogues the famous people who died over the last week. In this one, the famous person, the Tinseltown Stiff, is Jimmy Saville; known for his show Jim'll Fix It... AND NOTHING ELSE, because the news hadn't come out yet. So much anticipated collar pulling.

Anyone else remember when the tune to Madness' Baggy Trousers was used as the themesong for a breakfast cereal in the 1980s? It was some sort of shredded wheat pillow with a drizzle of frosting on it.

This is a choice, a choice not to tax the rich, and if Reform wins, they will deserve to win, because UK Labour does not. Being the "least worst" option, is not the great electoral advantage the Neoliberal Red teams think it is. "Keep the badder candidate out" should be a guaranteed election loser, as it often is. #UKPol https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04-06/broken-britain-poverty-crisis-pushing-voters-to-reform-uk/106354940

Maybe don't court cowardly reputational-artswashing corporate sponsors if you're an #Arts festival? I know that might mean organisers don't get as much of a gala luncheon trough to bury their snouts neck-deep within, but show me one example where the folders to the sensitivities of sponsors have come out with *their* reputations intact. #AusArts #AusPol

I have at times tried to figure out what #USia's King Floridaman sounds and looks like; references to other world phenomena. The combination I think I've landed upon, is that he sounds like a stupid person, who thinks they're smarter than everyone around them. So his speech is always condescending, but made up of child-size words with simple modifiers. The real weirdness though, is his mouth; the way he moves it when he talks is just odd, it's like a dog's...

It's time for #America #USia to recognise its strategic situation; that it cannot hold the straits of Hormuz for longer than Iran can close them, thus the futility of continuing to fight, and to surrender to #Iran and begin funding the necessary reparations to rebuild the damage inflicted by its illegal act of aggression. #USPol #WorldPol

Love the way in the #iOS #Passwords app, I had to delete every saved password for every subdomain of one of my domains, because without fail, Passwords / #Safari would autofill those, instead of the actual saved password for the www. version of the domain, to which I was logging in. No matter how many times I manually chose the correct password, which is specified for the www version. #ClownshoesSoftware #BozoDevelopers #Apple

Well, the thousand dollar big multi-drawer workshop toolbox that arrived today (to replace the last one that arrived pre-damaged by having forklift tines smashed into it prior to delivery) is a floor demonstrator, not a new in-box unit, and is just as badly damaged / pre-distressed. So, back to the store it will go. #SydneyTools is going to burn their entire margin on courier fees if they keep this up. #FML

War Machine was a reasonable movie, right up until the end when it became a nauseating American Military Propaganda recruitment film. You’ll know the part - where the entire backdrops to scenes are the USian flag.

Less than a week after picking up my new* Lindberg glasses, whose notable design feature is a lack of any screws or fixings, a temple screw pops out of a reserve pair of glasses, and I spend 10 minutes crawling on the carpet, scrabbling like a farm animal who can inexplicably use a torch, looking for said temple screw to put the lens back in the frame. Lindbergs be laughing in Danish nothing-but-bent-wire-and-tension construction. *First new sunglasses in 24 years.

The two happiest moments in a boat owner’s life; when they take delivery of the new boat, and when they sell the boat. The two happiest moments in a tech user’s life; when they get the new thing, and when the thing stops receiving updates and they’re left behind by progress.
