Does anyone know of a good self-hosted Kanban board and/or project management software that works as similar to Jira as possible? I know my question is going to make someone mad, but I just don't want to switch context way too much when managing my personal projects. Something similar to Trello is also acceptable. I currently use Kanboard, but the interface is way too limited. I understand their choices, but I would like something more rich/responsive/automated. #HomeLab #SelfHosted #Jira #Kanban @homelab

@badnetmask@hachyderm.io @homelab@fedigroups.social Taiga is another open source and good alternative: https://taiga.io/ I also heard about Plane, but didn't test it yet https://plane.so/

@badnetmask I used https://taiga.io/ a while ago, it seemed pretty comprehensive and familiar enough coming from Jira.

@badnetmask will be paying attention to this thread cuz I want to know too. I use vikunja for my to do list and it has a kanban board and some task management stuff but Im not sure it's a full jira replacement

@badnetmask @homelab There's fizzy from Rails developers (I haven't tested, and I don't like them much, but it is an option) I also heard about Taskcafé, but again, I haven't used it either.

  • @badnetmask @homelab I can recommend iceScrum. I've only used the cloud version, but it's perfect for personal projects. https://www.icescrum.com/documentation/how-to-install-icescrum/

@badnetmask never used jira or trello really so not sure it's exactly what you're after, but vikunja does kanban and so on and they list a comparison with trello on their site so i guess they're aiming for a similar target. they have a demo instance to try it out if you like, see if it meets your needs and is similar enough to what you're used to: https://vikunja.io/

@badnetmask @homelab I've had good luck with Planka. Moved to it from Trello and was pretty seamless. I use the Docker images. https://github.com/plankanban/planka

All my experiences with self hosted project management software is they all suck. For all the hate Jira gets, I think it's entirely unjustified and probably comes from unskilled Jira administrators. Jira is kind of a Project Management operating system, and it's hard to make it as flexible and reliable. I've tried Redmine and the GitLab open source version but they really aren't very good. @homelab@fedigroups.social @badnetmask@hachyderm.io

  • @badnetmask there is Plane, if you want Jira experience: https://plane.so/. And there is Kan.bn for simplicity, like Trello: https://kan.bn/

After procrastinating a decision about which Kanban tool to use, I finally weighed all the available choices and landed on @vikunja@social.linux.pizza I think this was the first time that a software having their presence on Mastodon made part of my reasons to choose something. Another one is the integration with Home Assistant. So far, so good. Haven't used it for more than a few minutes to create some fake tasks, but it's been nice. Now I need to figure out how to migrate from my old Kanboard. #HomeLab #SelfHosted #Jira #Kanban #Vikunja @homelab@fedigroups.social
