@cratermoon@zirk.us @bruces@mastodon.social A lot of those are for positions where there is an anointed candidate, but the company needs to have an “open” posting anyhow, so it writes the requirements so that only one person can fill it, and they post it for 24 hours. When I transitioned from perma-temp to regular employee at my current job, my position was posted that way.

@cratermoon@zirk.us @bruces@mastodon.social Absolutely a factor. When I was responsible for such things in the past, I was told by HR and exec to keep many postings open. They are a critical signal to customers and partners of growth/health. You also might get an unsolicited “rockstar” resume of someone you must hire. Those were the presented theories, at least. I don’t have quantitative data to support.

@cratermoon@zirk.us @bruces@mastodon.social Often it's just so that, if they ever do have a need for that position, they have a stack of candidates ready to go without having to wait for responses to a job posting. Yes, that completely screws the job market over.

@cratermoon@zirk.us @bruces@mastodon.social some of these shams were to obtain a Department of Labor certification so they can hire a H1-B after claiming no Americans applied (because they posted in the classified ads section of dead-tree editions of newspapers no one reads any more).
