My hobby: reading every news headline about AI as if it's talking about Weird Al Yankovic. "Why Al's Most Important Work Won't Make Headlines This Year" "How to Create Humble Al" "Allesia Cara's Al Anxiety" "Al Overly Affirms Users Asking for Personal Advice" "Google is Using Al to Modify Search Headlines"

I’m just back from an off-grid dive lodge in Pixvae, Panama and it really redefined for me what “off-grid” can mean. Solar power for lighting and devices, Starlink WiFi, gravity-fed spring and rain collection for water, and integrated septic systems. Still needs an occasional propane fill for cooking and hot water, but was just as comfortable as an urban resort and had world-class diving in Coiba National Park.

I have a rude question: Is open source licensing dead? Code assistants are trained on the universe of (variously licensed) source-available software in existence, and can recapitulate a vaguely compatible clone claiming “clean room”(ish) techniques. (See: chardet) LLMs can be used to monetize others open source work even more trivially, as described below. Where can we even go from here? https://social.nouveau.community/@june/116189020908193236

I was reading my child a bedtime story and then my book decided it had to install a software update in the middle.

Who could have guessed that allowing crypto-betting prediction markets would rapidly converge with Jim Bell’s “Assassination Politics”? 🤔 https://circumstances.run/@davidgerard/116239121117366190

Question: is it better to be in a sweatshop folding laundry, or in a VR headset sweatshop teleoperating a laundry folding robot? https://www.theregister.com/2026/02/12/laundry_folding_robot_8000_dollars_teleoperated/

Bar coaster in the former British consulate in Chiang Mai… (not clear to me if there is any connection to Thailand, or Britain, for that matter)
