I’m just back from an off-grid dive lodge in Pixvae, Panama and it really redefined for me what “off-grid” can mean. Solar power for lighting and devices, Starlink WiFi, gravity-fed spring and rain collection for water, and integrated septic systems. Still needs an occasional propane fill for cooking and hot water, but was just as comfortable as an urban resort and had world-class diving in Coiba National Park.

I am definitely a city boy and also recognize the extreme sustainability advantages of density (esp water and sewer, as well as offsite renewable energy) but this was very, very nice. Obviously the place it breaks down is the 2 hour drive to the hardware store.
