@pollita on the news of this feature alone... honestly... i rejoice, there are some repos no matter what i will reject 100% of pulls while i am the maintainer, even though it is "open" source. just because i picked bsd-3c doesnt mean i have to share creative vision. which leads me to point 2: i also submit the idea that what we are really afraid of is not this feature but finding out the people have different values than we expected of a project, afraid of being disappointed by them.

@pollita Viewed over the longer period of time, GitHub has been quite a big net loss for open source, IMO.

@pollita I was among the naïve who thought maybe the whole GitHub acquisition was not just another Microsoftian attempt at the ‘90s strategy of Embrace and Extinguish. It's fair if none of us really thought the extinguish play would have had the energy to go at it for this long…

@pollita I see no problem with this. It's a setting for repository owners. Some projects don't accept PRs anyway, without this setting they would close them without looking or ignore them altogether. The real problem I keep running into with PRs is that people would add features without asking first, and then get all pissed off when I tell them that I don't want this feature in my project. "But I spent time working on it!" I have no idea how to address this with technical means tbh.

@pollita This is IMO not a paver stone to the defeat of OpenSource. After all, OpenSource existed before GitHub. And especially git allows very easy collaboration. And already OSS repositories are distributed over several big players and countless self hosted ones. It *is* a paver stone on the decline of OSS as we know it for the last ... decade? And for sure a paver stone on the.decline of the big player that started OSS the way we know it.

@pollita half of the reply people here seem to miss that the low quality problem is not unique to github. It's the new normal everywhere thanks to AI. Leaving github does not fix it. Also, not accepting PRs is like not hiring juniors. How are we going to get experienced good developers into the projects when we shut the door in their faces?

@pollita there is nothing about FOSS stating that it's obligatory to accept Pull Requests (and facilitate submitting it). What's more, sometimes GitHub is just a public facing, read-only mirror and lack of option to disable PR was very annoying...

@pollita makes me question why github needs to exist in this chain at all, if everything is going to be done by group/email collaboration again why not just eliminate github from the picture.
