@RickiTarr@beige.party it's an unwritten rule of corporate media outlets, the view you expressed (and I whole-heartedly agree with) will never be expressed in public. The commons is no longer free and the views expressed are sanitized. The plurality of people conflate majority consensus with truth. If your too busy living hand-to-mouth it's a durable fallback strategy to building a consistent framework for reality.

Nobody ever provides any source for this claim because all the research done on consequences of raising taxes on the rich essentially says there's little to no impact on rich people leaving. Sociology says it's partly because they have their social circles and lives in the country they live in, it's not socially easy to leave, and most the time, the tax raise is not big enough to motivate them to actually leave.

@RickiTarr@beige.party Canada, Japan, Germany, Norway, France, Spain and a bunch of other countries have some form of exit tax, which usually applies to most form of wealth. The US taxes citizens no matter where they live, so it doesn't even matter if the billionaires move. And if they give up US citizenship, there is an exit tax. In other words: let them move, it will cost them more.

@RickiTarr@beige.party Their money actually came from everyone else, so them leaving would actually benefit people. Much of that money went to them through taxpayers via govt contracts. Also we should nationalize SpaceX for assured launch capability (but I've seen good arguments against that so I'm open to just forcing a lot more competition) and we should cancel all govt contracts with Meta, Google, and Palantir and let those companies just die.

@RickiTarr@beige.party Oh nooo, don't threaten me with a good time. Yes they might move but you know what probably won't: The people and infrastructure who actually generate their wealth. It's our fault that these hoarding dragons can basically move their virtual assets however they please but I doubt anyone will be packing up a data center and moving it to a tax haven...

Buying up all the healthcare to make themselves liver forever so you get none? Do you really want to live next to a 800 pound economic gorilla that can come round and take whatever they want, whenever they want it? Or can we tell them to fuck off?
