  Finished #audiobook The Heroes by Joe Abercrombie. Book 5 in The First Law series. This one didn't quite hold my interest as much as the earlier books, as it was basically a 23-hour long iron age melee gore fest with brief interludes of discussion about the meaninglessness and joy of war, depending on which character was doing the philosophizing, and some various plotting and scheming going on while Bayaz, the First of the Magi, again pulled puppet strings throughout.   Dennis Bushnell, former chief scientist at NASA Langley, was one of the most intriguing characters I had the pleasure to work with during my years in scientific and technical intelligence. He had many ideas, I'll leave it at that, but he was always so fun to talk with. I just looked him up and found that he retired a year after I did and died about a year ago. A sad loss.   This morning I had a conversation with someone who, it turns out, has 5 Teslas, one of them a cybertruck. 😬 I noted that I felt the self driving software was, to me, beyond my level of safety risk, and she lit up like a Christmas tree, going on about all the ways gas cars and old, non-self-driving cars are so much less safe than Teslas. Like she really lit up, and all I could do was kind of giggle a little bit because I was watching someone so deeply imprinted and it was really fascinating.

  Spending the morning providing morale to the grandspawn at her JROTC Raiders competition in rural GA. The weather so far is quite livable. She is rethinking her career dream of being a fighter pilot because of Trump's illegal war bombing a school full of girls in Iran. I'm glad.   #scifi author Ben Bova has a couple of books with protagonist Dan Randolph the space entrepreneur who is an absolutely sexist pig and in the first book I read it was irritating but didn't entirely block out the story. In the next book I just started yesterday called Privateers, in which Randolph becomes a space pirate after Russia basically takes over the world and all space activities, the sexist, womanizing shit has just been monumentally intolerable in the first few chapters.
