Hey cis people & people desperately trying to convince themselves they're cis. I wanted to clarify something that my newly out friend reminded me y'all don't know. Affirming HRT dramatically changes you. Estrogen will soften your skin, change your facial fat distribution and give you breasts and hips. A lot of what you see about your body isn't bone structure. It's fat distribution. That can - and does - change dramatically on HRT. So yes, there's mental effects - some people's brains just work better on Testosterone & some on Estrogen. And honestly, emotional range and regulation is awesome. That's why a lot of trans folks describe suddenly seeing the world in colour, or being able to cry, or [insert stereotypical response here] But also let's be clear, despite what brainwormed idiots on 4chan say, in your 30s, 40s and even beyond HRT can and will change your body. So yes, if you're like unaware of this, to reiterate, my breasts grew not using magic, they weren't surgically implanted through breast augmentation (not that there's anything wrong with that). I grew them the old fashioned way - using drugs. I wasn't twinky pre transition, I was weetabix shaped. Oh and if you're like "I need to do x to improve my body before I start E/T", you know what'll really help? Having your brain running on the hormone it is intended to work on. Not feeling like garbage every day. Experiencing the world in a way you can be present in it & get to feel joy and happiness. Anyway, this has been your regularly scheduled post from the Trans Agenda. I'm off to go look cute in exercise gear.

@pyoor@lgbtqia.space given a recent comment thread I saw, with earlier-transition women being surprised at just how much boobage HRT provided someone (“I thought we couldn’t get more than A or B cup???”), seems like there’s a myth to be dispelled / logic to be applied there too. Whether cis or trans, boobs take time to grow. A year or two isn’t enough. If you have aunts with F cups, those probably took them 6 years to grow. You’ll match the family eventually.

@pyoor@lgbtqia.space to build off what you're saying here, there really isn't a meaningful or consistent difference between male and female skeletons, because humans aren't that dimorphic—which is why coroners and archeologists constantly get it wrong and make unsound decisions based on their cultural assumptions that don't apply to the underlying biology people are just people; everyone is a unique combination of endless universal variables, that we then arbitrarily and inconsistently label this or that and average out to decide what made-up category to put them in. we are all the same, and we are all individually different i only started hrt after 41-1/2 years, yes you read that correctly, and hey turns out that decision was the precise medical intervention my body needed for it to stop screaming at me in pain and discomfort in the ways it has been for 30 frickin years. and it worked just fine and so many of my medical problems that i never understood were not normal for a healthy person vanished more or less immediately—once i received necessary care to support the individual needs of my body. like any number of interventions we think nothing of (psychiatric meds, for one thing), it's just an endocrine problem; sometimes our bodies don't produce the hormones we need in the amounts we need to be healthy and for all our systems to function correctly. and when our bodies get the resources they need to build themselves back up healthy, it doesn't matter if the materials are locally sourced or imported; it's all bioidentical, all "tastes" the same. so they just get right on with it, following the new instructions same as they followed the old, while they keep on rebuilding themselves cell-by-cell biologically, we can change our tack at any time—because we are continually remaking ourselves from brass tacks every moment that we are alive. nothing about us is fixed, all variation is individual, and all our hardware is compatible regardless of what assumptions we use when we name them. so it's just as arbitrary when we swap out one set of instructions for another; our bodies just keep doing what they can't help but do, and given enough time eventually every cell in our bodies will have been replaced the way they're supposed to be—just, following a slightly different blueprint than they had been
