@someonetellmetosleep@chitter.xyz I don't own one so I can't super vouch for their performance or longevity, but Goldenmate makes UPS systems that use LiFePo4 batteries, which are significantly more durable than lead-acid chemistries. If you're curious, the likely answer to "how does it kill itself after just a few charge cycles" is possibly that the battery is getting severely discharged each time, which causes serious damage to the battery that can't be regenerated. lead-acid in general does not tolerate going below ~50% state of charge at all. And since these systems aren't really battery backups, they're just a stop gap, well... anyways, I really don't get any lead-acid is still the standard in UPS systems when stable lithium-based (and eventually sodium-based) chemistries exist that outperform them most of the time.

@someonetellmetosleep@chitter.xyz this sounds like the float voltage is wrong for the specific battery construction, but I’ll bet you can’t adjust that without a soldering iron and poking around inside the case. FWIW you need to pick your poison - either a cheap UPS that takes generic batteries (eg CyberPower), or an expensive UPS that takes proprietary batteries (eg APC or Eaton) In any case, even with correct charge voltage and current, and correct float voltage, lead-acid batteries are consumables and usually only last 3-5 years.

@someonetellmetosleep@chitter.xyz I use "dead" consumer UPS units that I pick up from the side of the road and replace the dead lead acid battery with a LiFePo battery (one that is sold as a "lead acid replacement" battery and has a built-in BMS). I don't even bother changing the float voltage. It works fine.
