@someonetellmetosleep@chitter.xyz I don't own one so I can't super vouch for their performance or longevity, but Goldenmate makes UPS systems that use LiFePo4 batteries, which are significantly more durable than lead-acid chemistries.
If you're curious, the likely answer to "how does it kill itself after just a few charge cycles" is possibly that the battery is getting severely discharged each time, which causes serious damage to the battery that can't be regenerated. lead-acid in general does not tolerate going below ~50% state of charge at all. And since these systems aren't really battery backups, they're just a stop gap, well...
anyways, I really don't get any lead-acid is still the standard in UPS systems when stable lithium-based (and eventually sodium-based) chemistries exist that outperform them most of the time.

@senil@gts.social.senil.me goldenmate does seem reasonably price-competitive with cyberpower, so if I do a full replacement that seems to be a good option as far as I can tell, cyberpower is using AGM batteries, which are a type of deep-cycle lead-acid battery so they should be able to tolerate charge cycles pretty well aiui? better than an ordinary car battery at any rate. but the ups might still be going out of even agm's recommended parameters. it doesn't give much control to the user over them I agree with you about using lead-acid at all anymore seeming like a bad standard though
