The absolute gall of this question. A required question, mind you. I will likely not be getting called in for an interview, but it was totally worth it. #jobsearch #jobhunt #capitalism

@grendel84@tiny.tilde.website I skip questions like that. Also questions asking when I graduated from college and martial status are nunya (busines). I won't provide references until there's a background check so managers aren't used as sales leads. I won't sign contracts with an arbitration clause or disparagement clause.

@grendel84@tiny.tilde.website I started answering questions like these with data that makes me look reasonably attractive (by being cheap for them to hire me). Should they want to hire me (hey, I’m cheap!), only at the very last second I would state: “Oh, I see, there must be a misunderstanding: Where I claimed to earn X, it was for a 30h workweek. So if you want to hire me full time, I’d need at least a 33% increase of whatever you’re offering.”

@grendel84@tiny.tilde.website I will never forget the company that published a salary range in their ad, said they were going to hire me but to be hired I had to give them my current salary, and then they offered me less than the lowest salary in their ad. I'm glad they did that because I would not want to work for them.

  • When I was asked about my compensation history I stated that it’s covered by NDA and I wasn’t able to provide it. They made a good offer. Also in their contract their NDA referred to certain information being confidential: the normal sensitive things, and also my salary and perks. I did query that and they confirmed that yes, salary is covered by the NDA. @grendel84@tiny.tilde.website

@grendel84@tiny.tilde.website - If I were in charge of a company, I'd include that question, and only hire people who refused to answer one way or another. This is, of course, only one of many reasons I will never be in charge of a company.

@grendel84@tiny.tilde.website did you consider doubling all of your salaries to see if they'd blindly use it as social proof of your exceptional talent and pay you what you deserve 🤣🤷‍♂️. Even if you do get called in for an interview make sure you only attend if they actually send you those salary numbers 😂.
