@pmonks@sfba.social It's not about making money. It's about taking money. Destroying the status quo because the status is not quo.

@pmonks@sfba.social well yeah, people who are elected obviously can't be trusted with large piles of money, but unelected billionaires obviously can - we've never seen anything bad from them in the past or present, nor can we imagine anything bad from them in the future.

@pmonks@sfba.social > We could literally set the money we collect on fire Fortunately, that's what federal taxation is! US dollars are created by US government spending: pass a law that says to spend new money, increase number at central bank, poof the money exists. Taxation is the opposite process: the money ceases to exist. This exposes the folly of “but how will they use billionaire tax money”: they won't. A monetarily sovereign government doesn't need billionaire money to fund anything, they just fund what they want to fund by writing “spend this new money” in a law. US federal taxation destroys the money, and the billionaire has less spending power. That's the point of US govt taxation: it removes the money the govt created. To control inflation; to discourage activities that are to be discouraged. Not to fund anything. We don't need billionaires *for anything*, least of all their money. #WhereMoneyComesFrom #MMT #FundBySpending #TaxTheWealthyat

@pmonks@sfba.social set money on fire > increase the value of other money in circulation > everybody else is richer 🎉 You can't even go wrong with that plan.

@pmonks@sfba.social No Canadian has been put in bankruptcy because of medical debt for decades. More than a few million Americans have lost everything, because of a diagnosis. Millions. More now because of Trump. The corrupt will answer what to do with a corrupted democracy with "abolish democracy" - when the obvious answer is abolish the corrupt.

@pmonks@sfba.social I'm from the 50's, tho it needed to be expanded for all. I worked for $1.25hr I could live on that & have a beer after. Went to school at one of the best public educ in the world. College cost $5.00 for a student body card & books. That time from WWII - 70's was the most productive & creative, in history. Business was doing fine with a tax of 60-90% it was setup so they did better when they took care of their people/community. $ cycled more than once before the rich got it.

@pmonks@sfba.social One dollar spent on the public welfare out of a billion taxed would still be more money than your average billionaire contributes to society. Infinitely more, as a billionaire is in and of themselves a detrimental force and a net loss. The only thing a billionaire contributes to society is a kind of entertainment born of how useless they are, and there are cheaper and healthier alternatives to binging 'what has Elon said today'.
