I received this GrowSF poll. The language was heavily loaded to make the use of these drones and cameras sound much more limited and accountable than it would ever be in actuality. I saw through it because I know their game, most people wouldn't. Remember that polls can be used more to manufacture a narrative than to honestly uncover what people actually think.

If you were wondering how the SF #YIMBY movement is going, they’re cheerleading for ending the requirement for developers to plant trees when they’re *already tearing up the sidewalk anyway*. Why bother to fund permanently affordable housing, ban sprawl, or shift highway subsidies to transit? Much easier to promote density by having cities be polluted, gray, and dead anytime some developer says it’ll save him a few bucks.

The Mission voted against giving the SFPD drones by 20 points. Now SFPD is flying more drones here than any other neighborhood. This is an occupation. Vicious attack mailer against Lurie just dropped 🔥 It’s harsh but true. He does indeed oppose big corporations paying their fair share to keep vital SF services from being cut. How out of touch can you be? Yes on D and let’s make the nepo baby a one-term mayor!

Is the new GBV title Bob Pollard's estimation of his own place in rock songwriting? He's not so boastful as to assume he has a place in the pantheon, but the *crawlspace* of the pantheon, well, that's not too much to ask. https://guidedbyvoices.bandcamp.com/album/crawlspace-of-the-pantheon

Last boost: I disagree with Connie Chan on transportation issues, but in a federal race where our new Congressperson will vote on foreign wars, I'm going to amplify both of the non–Scott Wiener candidates. Wiener spent years denying the genocide in Gaza and attacking people calling for peace as antisemites. He falsely maintains the problem is just Netanyahu, ignoring that Israeli "opposition" leaders make constant genocidal statements too. Wiener would be an enabler of...

It would be cool if the Coast Starlight's running time were half as long and if there were 6+ departures per day and you could, on one ticket, freely get off at stops along the way and visit for a bit before getting back on the next train toward your destination.

Carefully hugged this smol oak tree on Shotwell Street 💚 Coast live oaks were likely the most common tree in so-called San Francisco before colonization and provide habitat/food for 270 species. But they’re rarely planted as street trees: only 9 scattered around the Mission according to DPW. The city only allows them on sidewalks 15’ wide without overhead power lines, a unicorn situation. Even then they usually plant Australian and other exotic species.

Okay, I need the prog supervisors to have a charter amendment ready to go to require BOS confirmation for mayoral appointees that fill vacancies. If it doesn't have six votes now, so be it, just have it ready for that final vote the minute Chow/Gee or Brooke are seated. It is very unusual and obviously prone to corruption that SF lets its mayor fill vacancies unilaterally https://missionlocal.org/2026/05/sf-london-breed-stephen-sherrill-bloomberg-conor-johnston-district-2/

"there are limits to the comparison [between South Africa and Israel]. For one thing, it’s unfair to South Africa... Pretoria at least pretended that the Bantustans were independent, while the Palestinian Authority is accused of 'diplomatic terrorism' whenever it engages with international bodies." https://www.currentaffairs.org/news/what-i-learned-from-reading-apartheid-propaganda

Something I'm trying is to say "punishment-first approach to public safety" instead of "tough on crime." To us leftists, the second phrase has a bad connotation, but to the general public, it doesn't. The politicians who popularized it used it as a selling point. To reach people who don't already agree with us, we have to frame the issue our way and not our opponents' way

it kind of saddens me how everyone on the bus is looking at their phone. i know the internet's favorite "gotcha" response to this is to show old-timey photos of everyone on a tram reading the newspaper. but those newspapers were locally produced. on our phones we're all scrolling the same platforms with the same algorithms controlled by multinational companies directing our attention. it's a loss of local character and connections

I sometimes griped about my former supervisor Hillary Ronen, but cheers to her for joining a nonprofit that protects immigrants after leaving office, rather than go to a cushy lobbying gig. The contrast is especially stark with her would-be "moderate" successor who, after losing his election, immediately joined ICE-collaborating Flock Safety as a lobbyist. https://missionlocal.org/2026/04/san-francisco-hillary-ronen-mission-district-la-raza-centro-legal/
