@saphire@dragon.style what if someone doesnt have a smartphone..? or is currently using their phone to access something with this new captcha and doesnt have a random second device to scan QR codes off of their phone with? even in a sunshine rainbows world where nobody did scam QRs it seems like a pretty bad idea...

@saphire@dragon.style yep, requires gms. scanning that example qr code (https://recaptcha.net/qr/T7KoMH-4) on a gms phone opens play services, and opening it in a browser leads to this page (https://support.google.com/recaptcha/answer/16609652) which says you need play services 25.41.30, or an app on iOS. microg doesn't currently support opening recaptcha.net links so there's no way to solve these captchas on a fully open source device. hopefully it's possible to make that work, but even then it'll probably just become a cat and mouse game. fuck google for making the internet infinitely worse yet again

@saphire@dragon.style Seems like a viable approach to scare away potential customers. No way I'm going to scan a QR code to place an order. But yes, just set up a cheaper-than-others fake webshop, and you can phish a lot of data I guess.

@saphire@dragon.style this is a lil off your topic but i got a phishing text the other day like "Dick Sporting Goods order tecieved! Track at dickssportinggoods.smth.io. STOP to opt out!" or something. And that's clearly phishing. And the fact its so clearly phishing and i still am not sure it actually was (and not like a wrong number or something - i dont have any account that could do this) disturbs me much more than the phishing.
