Pre-gym blog post done. I think today is going to just be a swimming day, plus maybe a walk to enjoy the nice weather later. https://bomkatt.wordpress.com/2026/04/19/19-april-clever-summary-here/

There was all kinds of casual locker room nudity today. That always makes me happy because the US culture is really uptight about nudity. There is nothing sexual about me trying to get myself back into street clothes after a swim

I made it through a dozen reddit posts that were actually sincere and helpful before the inevitable intentionally-missing-the-point-in-comments one. Maybe i should play the lotto today too

No matter how well it suits my range, i probably should not sing I Touch Myself by the Divynals for work karaoke

Last week, i said something about being a worrier in a call with a work friend. She agreed. By "worrier," i meant that I have made a habit of thinking about potential problems before they happen. I am frequently correct for doing so Now, in true worrier styles, i am concerned that i'm worrying too much and/or about the wrong problems

Enlightenment Bros cosplaying Rome, US edition "The Founding Fathers, the men who fought the British Empire for their independence, framed their struggle in terms of Roman-ness. They wrote letters to one another filled with references to Roman political theory and used the names of ancient Roman heroes as pseudonyms. They wore togas in public, used Latin slogans taken from Cicero, and identified themselves with Roman statesmen."

For your Sunday reading, well, not enjoyment necessarily. Enrichment? Distraction? In any case, here's a blog post https://bomkatt.wordpress.com/2026/04/12/12-april-regroup/

I will highly recommend Code Dependent by Madhumita Murgia to anyone looking for a very accessible discussion of the impact Ai and algorithms are having on society at large. She focuses on human impacts and stories as well as the business and technology forces causing them.

There are 11 starlings finding food in my yard right now. I may have gone full Count Von Count and said "nine starlings. Ten starlings! 11 starling!" as the last two landed.

I just finished Code Dependent, which was really good until the last chapter. There, it took a turn into just operating under the assumption that AI is an inevitable and inescapable part of technology. But you can't solve non-technical problems with tech. Uber's algorithm is biased in the company's favor, but it was the refusal to follow the law and VC business model that makes them so destructive. FB could have done so many different things around moderation, but the...

That uniquely IT moment where you catch yourself saying things like "no, you can't just do what people ask you to do!" or "i know they requested it, but why?"

Gathering myself up to push hard on the bike trainer today. I'm also trying to shake off the sense of "nothing i do matters anyway so why try?" that i had last week.

I'm also trying to think about how to remove obstacles that are stopping me from good actions. I got out of the habit of walking during breaks in the workday when i was suffering from injuries. How can i get back to that as the weather warms up? Will buying some new gym gear motivate me to wear it to said gym? What will help me feel good in my body the way it is currently?

I just got myself through a 18m/30ish? Km bike ride, so that felt good. Well, it feels very bad right now, but i'm sure accomplishment will settle in soon. Right?

I forgot to post yesterday's workout, but it was brutal. 16 min amrap of 8 shoulder taps 4 weighted squats 4 thrusters 4 strict presses My quads and shoulders are appropriately indignant

I grabbed some shorts yesterday, and they were too snug. It's sending me in an anxiety spiral... of binging on cookies. It such an obviously Bad Solution to things, but somehow this is where i'm going. It seems self defeating at best. Self punishing at worst. Do not recommend

Well, this is new- i can't close an account till i click a link sent to my email, but the page it sends me to won't open. I suspect this is stupid fingerprinting stuff- i was using multiple devices to try to do this.

Do you think my cat would know that he's a fluffy, fluffy cat if i didn't sing made-up songs with lyrics that point it out?
