@scy@chaos.social What's the use case for an Android screen saver? On my phone, I want the screen switched off when not in use, to save battery. I have a tablet which is in use in the kitchen as a #HomeAssistant dashboard - this is permanently plugged in so no worries about battery life. But it exists so that we can see things at a glance, so we don't want a screen saver there either.

@scy@chaos.social jwz seriously glows considering that the solution was just to link to the f-droid version rather than encouraging more usage of the played store; https://f-droid.org/en/packages/org.jwz.xscreensaver/

@scy@chaos.social I absolutely don't need a screen saver on my phone, but hell yeah I'm installing it, just so I can agree to the privacy policy

@scy@chaos.social LOL: Unlike Google, XScreenSaver will never offer you advice, as it cannot talk. In the event that XScreenSaver does talk, we ask you to ignore its advice. As we do with Google.

@scy@chaos.social As soon as you said "the maintainer" I knew this was going to be good - JWZ has been doing this kind of thing since before he was at Netscape.

@scy@chaos.social Oh nice now XScreensaver can be downloaded from the Google Play Store too, I only known that it's available on f-droid. π π That privacy policy is genius, I like the wording. π

@scy@chaos.social I just wonder why he even bothers to get it into Google's Play Store when there's a simple apk file available. Also there's F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid and other free app stores.

@scy@chaos.social The fuck... *years* later they are, "warning" me that they "might" delete data that was requested to be deleted. Yeah... That kind of hits home. I mean... I get why a privacy policy *may* be required, but it seems like if your product doesn't really communicate (well it might, I think some of them have the ability to use web hosted content (yep, text manipulation can take a URL).
