Our boss, Harold is lying on the floor, barely conscious. It turns out Captain Cutter beat you all up badly, took all the rum, and also took Harold's daughter, Brenda. He wants his treasure back, and Harold of course wants his daughter back. So let's get cracking...

Thursday Next has arrived in LLMs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kp3DSOKarCo In Jasper Fforde's novels the characters in the books within the books become confused by direct speech, if there is no "Thursday said:" before the speech. Basically a prompt injection by role confusion... #llm #thursdaynext

Today: Refurbishing the remote control of my Technics receiver. It was hardly registering any keypresses. Worse: Someone was in there before me.

RE: https://mas.to/@gamemagprintads/116905712710290065 I wonder what happened to Constellation Software. Mobygames lists only two games for them. None of the ones in this ad.

Incidentally I can partake in #nakeddiefriday today. Yesterday’s museum visit yielded a die, probably a DRAM or SRAM I would guess from its regular appearance. But what is the black dot? CC @infosecdj

Another #linux and #linuxmint question: Since the last round of updates my WiFi doesn't connect automatically anymore. I have to actively click on my WiFi network, even though it is marked "connect automatically". The NetworkManager is running, and I have no idea what's happening. Any ideas?

RE: https://mastodon.social/@Blender/116482997785333001 Thank goodness that #blender is open source. But this was really a dumb move, and I fear that this could lead to a fragmentation of the Blender code base in the long run, as it will alienate quite a bunch of users and developers. #foss #gpl

So a little nut to crack for my #linux bubble: I am running #mintlinux on my external Thunderbolt SSD on the 2013 iMac. Problem is: When I suspend and then resume, the TB SSD does NOT wake up. System hangs -- because there is no root FS anymore! I already tried iummu=soft and pcie_aspm=off in the grub defaults: GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash iommu=soft pcie_aspm=off" But that does nothing to help. Any other ideas how to wake the sleeping princcess?

Next year, #macos will stop supporting #rosetta, which is the x86 compatibility layer. There was an effort 5 years ago to reverse engineer Rosetta 2: https://ffri.github.io/ProjectChampollion/part1/ However this seems to have stopped. It's a shame Apple doesn't open source this project, as it could be useful for a lot of other projects. JIT translation of x86 to ARM is just very useful for a lot of emulation projects.

New Video: Individual Computers C64 Smart Supply The old C64 doorstop power supplies and their successors are a bit of a liability if you continue to use them nowadays. I can't get Generation X to run to conclusion on my Amiga 500 (1MB OCS, ECS Agnus). It always hangs with a red screen a short while after the "press RMB for secret music disk" part. Since that thing uses weird MFM encoding for the disk, it might be the diskette? Or the disk drive? Has anyone run this demo successfully from diskette? @chainq maybe? Is there a FlashFloppy firmware that supports the weird ADF file? https://demozoo.org/productions/390028/ #demoscene #amiga...
