What I love is how Zohran Mamdani&#39;s father Mahmood found out about Marx. &quot;Soon after, he learned about Karl Marx&#39;s work from an FBI visit.&quot; -wikipedia FBI guy said, “Do you like Marx?” I said, “I haven’t met him.” Guy said, “No, no, he’s dead.” “Wow, what happened?” “No, no, he died long ago.” I thought the guy Marx had just died. So then, “Why are you asking me if he died long ago?” “No, he wrote a lot. He wrote that poor people should not be poor.” I said, “Sounds amazing.”

@gnoll110@ruby.social Just read a brief bio of Mahmood Mamdani. Fascinating. As a young student he was active in the US civil rights movement, and was jailed for participation in a freedom march in Alabama.

There's a time travel episode where some aliens end up on Earth (at Area 51 of course) during the red scare and get accused of being communist spies. They ask one of them if he's a Commie and if he's read Marx and his response is something like "I'll have to look him up when I get back" 7 episodes later he's leading a strike and quoting the communist manifesto.
