@sarae It's also really good idea to get checked if you've moved between Healthcare systems, when I was in my twenties, I had the doctor check all of my vaccinations and discovered I'd missed my MMR booster when moving between the Ontario and BC Healthcare systems. This is apparently really common for students that go off to university and stop seeing their family doctor, they don't think to transfer their vaccination records to whatever doctor they're seeing while away at school.

@sarae@ecoevo.social Last year, had to go off immune suppressants for a few months so I could safely get my MMR updated. I'd had my titers done at my 2024 physical and it came out low for measels. So... It was a miserable experience as the suppressants are for arthritis caused by an autoimmune syndrome. Literal agony by the time I could safely resume my medications.

@sarae Hmmm. While I am strongly in favour of routinely vaccinating infants against hepatitis B, I have not had this vaccine myself. My non-immune status doesn't worry me in the slightest, because my risk of hepatitis B exposure is virtually zero. This is true for many adults. Also, it is unnecessary to check measles immunity if the person definitely received two vaccine doses (if this is uncertain, YES, GET CHECKED OR GET MMR). Adequate immunity persists even if antibodies decline.

@sarae Such good advice! I wasn't really paying attention to the measles outbreaks, until my twin brother wrote me and said he learned he was no longer immune to measles-- and he was getting ready for an international trip so he got vaccinated again. Thankfully when I had my doctor check my immune level for measles, mine was still very strong!

@sarae IIRC, Measles can destroy learned-immunity for other diseases, too. So it's doubly important to get Measles covered.

@sarae How did this testing work for you? Did they test a blood sample against a panel of several diseases, or did you specifically ask for measles and hepatitis B only?
