Here's an aerial view showing the terrain shape more clearly.

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place This looks great! There’s a little bit of related talk about aligning mountain peaks and hills in this podcast episode, if you’re interested. https://eggplant.show/152-walking-over-it-with-gabe-cuzzillo-and-bennett-foddy-baby-steps And this you might have seen already: Zelda’s triangle based world design. https://gmtk.substack.com/p/how-nintendo-solved-zeldas-open-world I think both lean towards the same result: the mountain’s epicness is only visible from afar (objective), or when you’re atop it (reward). The rest of the time it’s occluded by the next intriguing hill.

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place That looks really nice! One thing I like about hikes in forest is that you have the pacing if enclosed and open spaces. When you're inside a patch of a forest it feels like you're inside a dome. The canopy tends to be at the top of the trees the deeper you're inside a forest (light reach). Looking out through openings frames the vista outside, which creates anticipation.

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place That feels even better than Breath of the Wild in terms of a world that I just want to walk around in for hours!

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place one small contribution, if I may, ime regarding real forest tracks, there are way more bushes, large bush patches, near cliffs, and much less grassy plains may be regional, idk =P

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place This is absolutely beautiful ❣️❣️❣️😻 Between the details of the leaves, grass, ground and vistas to the lighting ❣️ I have loved playing valheim for the lighting and atmosphere (I am not one for combat portions 😹 just collecting materials😹) and this gives me that same feeling of being outside 💖 Thank you so much for sharing your work ❣️❣️❣️😻

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place Wow, interesting!! 🤩🤩 What's the objective of the game? Can I move to that game to live there? 🤔

@andoni@meetiko.org @andrewblasco@masto.es It's a game I'm developing in its early stages. There's nothing playable for the public I'm afraid. I have some more information about what the game is going to be about here: https://runevision.com/multimedia/thebigforest/

@andoni@meetiko.org @andrewblasco@masto.es Right here is where I share progress most consistently. I don’t use a special hashtag but I’d say the majority of my posts is related to it in one way or another. I often use procgen or gamedev hashtags though.

@runevision@mastodon.gamedev.place I'm just going to say, this space that you've developed looks absolutely gorgeous. I don't typically pay attention to the greenery as I'm walking around in video games, but watching your video has given me a sense of wonder and interest. It makes me feel like I'm actually wandering a park IRL, and that's a hard emotion to convey!
