@ole@chaos.social @dimsumthinking@mastodon.social Wasn’t the “right to forget” a big thing in the EU a few years ago? Doesn’t it apply here because the statements aren’t true in the first place or something?

@ole@chaos.social lovely logic… So if I set up a landmine and someone steps on it while I'm not around, can I also claim immunity since it wasn't me physically committing the crime at the moment of the murder?

@ole@chaos.social Microsoft AI (Copilot) Hallucinates His story began when he wanted to see how the articles on his culture blog were received on the Internet. On the Microsoft search engine Bing website, the AI chat Copilot was suggested to him. There, Bernklau gave his name and place of residence. Bernklau read Copilot's answers with horror. Here are some examples of what Copilot wrote that was completely made up: "A 54-year-old man named Martin Bernklau from Tübingen/Calw district was charged in a case of abuse against children and those under his care. He confessed in court, was ashamed and remorseful" (Source screenshot Copilot)

Makes me think disembodiment has always been part of the subjective development of technology. With #AI we get disembodiment and no liability, a dream come true. Reminds me of the book by #Romanyshyn https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/mono/10.4324/9780203358870/technology-symptom-dream-robert-romanyshyn

@ole@chaos.social 1. Input politicians’ names and addresses. 2. Produce plausible sounding accusations and funnel them to the media or to prominent social media accounts. 3. “A libel case against me? But I’m not the one making any assertions!” 4. Watch new laws get enacted real quick.

@ole@chaos.social The current laws really need to be updated for these GenAI systems, so consensus is reached about how to handle situations like this. With laws that explicitly place guidelines on the development of these models, ethics would be easier for both the systems' creators and users.

@ole@chaos.social If “no person” provided inaccurate criminal history and accurate address in this case (even though humans had to set the computer up, tell it what data to ingest, and run the program which turned that data into incorrect and defamatory output), then a toot which provided inaccurate criminal history and accurate address (or other libellous/dangerous content) should avoid being considered libel because it, too, was provided by a computer under instruction from a human somewhere.
