    @manna There’s poetry and beauty in a nicely hand-typeset book, or a hand-painted sign, or an original painting, but we accept mechanical typesetting, printing, and photography without comment.

    @manna @truh @cstross It’s not that simple. To someone invested in the process of making a computer for their own enjoyment, using a book to inform their journey and taking pictures of their progress, the computer is the art and the book and the picture the tools.

    @manna I do not have the skills to produce such a utopia—I also have limited input at best over library funding, copyright reform. But I’d like to *live* in such a utopia. I have great respect for authors (and painters, and other people in the arts) who feel they’re undercompensated—as a programmer, I think my profession is overcompensated and yours under. But re. the idea AI is “coming for our jobs” as well as worsening the state of the art, I think that’s happening to mine too.
