google news | Senator among six Irish on invite list of secretive Dialog group AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. At least six Irish figures – among them independent senator Lynn Ruane, two senior technology lawyers, a public‑servant in the energy sector and an Irish content writer – were invited to a closed‑door Dialog group gathering at the Powerscourt Hotel in Wicklow this August, an event organized by the secretive network co‑founded by billionaire Peter Thiel that brings together politicians, tech executives, military leaders and investors. A recent Wired report revealed an insecure part of the group’s website that exposed a list of 222 invitees, prompting criticism and calls for the event’s cancellation; Senator Ruane, who had planned to attend as a member of the Oireachtas AI committee, withdrew after learning of the leak, saying she could not accept a forum she now viewed as politically biased. The leaked documents also showed discussion topics ranging from “Navigating WWIII” and “Disinformation & Deepfakes” to “AI in Higher Education,” underscoring concerns about the group’s elitist, off‑the‑record nature and its influence on technology and policy. Feed: All Latest | Waymo Takes Its Self-Driving Cars to Virginia by Aarian Marshall AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Waymo has begun driving its self‑driving vehicles into Virginia’s Alexandria and soon Arlington to create ultra‑precise digital maps—a prerequisite for any future robotaxi service—though the state currently does not allow fully autonomous ride‑hailing and has no commercial launch plans yet. Waymo officials say the mapping phase is a preparatory step that could lead to service if Virginia’s legislature eventually authorizes driverless taxis, a process projected to take 12‑18 months and significant funding; a state bill aims to permit autonomous vehicles but isn’t expected to take effect before 2028. The effort reflects Waymo’s broader push to expand its paid‑passenger service, now operating in 11 U.S. metros with half‑a‑million weekly rides and targeting additional cities domestically and abroad, while it navigates regulatory hurdles, opposition in some regions, and recent operational setbacks such as software recalls and service pauses in flood‑prone areas. Times of India | Amid mass layoffs at Meta Mark Zuckerberg is hiring a 'beach water person' for his luxurious Hawaii ranch AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Meta announced a fresh round of global cuts on May 20, trimming about 10 % of its workforce while shifting roughly 7,000 employees to new AI‑focused projects. Amid these layoffs, Mark Zuckerberg’s family office listed an unusual opening for a “beach water person” at his sprawling ranch on Kauai, Hawaii. The role combines private lifeguard duties with water‑sport assistance—covering beach and pool safety, boat deckhand work, and guiding guests in paddleboarding, snorkeling and other ocean activities—for a seasonal, on‑call worker on the billionaire’s luxury compound. The posting, first spotted by WIRED on Greenhouse, has since vanished, drawing attention to the contrast between Meta’s workforce reductions and Zuckerberg’s personal hiring for his private ocean‑focused lifestyle. Business Latest | An Engineer’s Post Protesting Laptop Surveillance Is Going Viral Inside Meta by Paresh Dave AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. Meta employees in the US and UK are rallying against the company’s new Model Capability Initiative—a mandatory tool that records keystrokes, mouse movements and screen activity to collect data for training AI systems. An internal post by an engineer, seen by thousands of coworkers, described the software as a privacy invasion and warned it could set dangerous norms for how workers are exploited for AI training. The post sparked a petition demanding an end to the non‑consensual data extraction, fueling low morale, union‑organizing efforts—particularly in the UK—and widespread protests such as flyers and delayed installations, as staff question the legality and ethics of employer‑driven surveillance for AI development. Feed: All Latest | OpenAI Enables Marketing Cookies by Default for Free ChatGPT Users by Reece Rogers, Maddy Varner AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. OpenAI has updated its U.S. privacy policy to allow the use of cookies and limited user identifiers for advertising its products on third‑party sites, a change aimed at converting free‑tier ChatGPT users into paying subscribers. The company says conversations with ChatGPT remain private and are not shared with marketers, but data such as email addresses or cookie IDs may be sent to marketing partners to track ad effectiveness and promote services like ChatGPT and Codex. These marketing settings are enabled by default for free accounts, while paid accounts have them off, and users can opt out anytime via the “Marketing Privacy” control in the app’s settings. The revision also clarifies that OpenAI does not sell personal data, but it may share limited information with select marketing partners for targeted advertising, a shift from its previous policy that barred such sharing. Times of India | Lawyers in OpenAI trial claim that most important role of Shivon Zilis, mother of Elon Musk's four children, is being a covert liaison between OpenAI and Tesla CEO as she … AI generated summary, Read the full article for complete information. During the OpenAI trial, lawyers alleged that Shivon Zilis—Elon Musk’s partner and mother of his four children—served as a covert liaison between Musk and OpenAI after his 2018 departure from the board. Zilis, who joined OpenAI as an advisor in 2016 and later sat on its board from 2020 to 2023, was described by Musk at times as “chief of staff” and a close advisor. Court filings included text messages and emails in which Zilis asked Musk whether she should stay “close and friendly” to OpenAI to keep information flowing, and where she relayed internal updates on fundraising, AI projects and leadership discussions. Musk confirmed their personal relationship and shared children, while noting that Zilis had shifted much of her focus to his other companies but remained available to assist OpenAI when needed. @ann3nova@corteximplant.com @frameworkcomputer@fosstodon.org don't you know the #UltraNav? If #Lenovo didn't became overly greedy and canceled the #wired-version of their #CompactKeyboard for a evidently worse (Bluetooth + 2,4GHz proprietary) Version that costs more than double than the previous #Bluetooth version I'd choose that. They not only do the #ThinkPad Keyboards but also own the IP behind the UltraNav…
