1,280 #Wikimedia volunteers have pledged willingness to go on strike in solidarity with #WikiWorkersUnited https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Wiki_Workers_United_solidarity making us less than 100 signatures from being the most supported proposal or petition in the history of the English-language #Wikipedia. I never expected the level of support this would get, but I also never expected that the main driver of that support would be the #WikimediaFoundation managing to do the exact wrong thing at every possible turn.

Your #Wikipedia donations at work. The #WikimediaFoundation asks for your money to keep the lights on, & then spends it on notorious union-busting law firm Jones Day so its board members can recite generic anti-union rhetoric to justify ignoring supermajority support for unionization. If you consider yourself pro-union and have donated to the WMF, you can contact donate@wikimedia.org to let them know you do not want your donor money being spent on their and Jones Day's union-busting.

#WikimediaFoundation had a deadline of 24 July 2026 to voluntarily recognise #WikiWorkersUnitedUS [1], the newly created union of #WMF employees in the US. On 27 July, WMF replied "No!" In the past 2 months, over 1,000 #Wikimedians (and counting!) have expressed our solidarity with #WikiWorkersUnited, the #WikimediaFoundation staff union, up to and including openness to an editorial strike. Today at #Wikimania, dozens of us gathered to send a clear message to the WMF: You've said you support your workers' right to unionize; now that a supermajority of American employees have signed union cards, it's time to show that you mean it. Recognize the union without delay. #Solidarity!
