Helipuu means ‘sound tree’ in Estonian 🌲 🎵 Anyway, I’m a Frenchman living in the Estonian woods. I make ocarinas, flutes, whistles, and a few more musical stuff using local & natural materials. 🧵 I don’t make my toy-whistles this way anymore (I now prefer a rectangular window), but I’ll explain a bit this easy version because it’s actually quite fun to do.
If the wood isn’t very dry, I wait for six months after drilling it to allow the diameter to stabilise.

The secret is : when you look through the the duct (from the tip), you should be able to see the edge of the bevel – mostly above it, and only a little below it.
