Agi: Squalo attacca e morde un surfista in Australia
AGI - Un surfista sulla cinquantina è stato ricoverato d'urgenza in ospedale dopo essere stato morso da uno squalo nell'Australia occidentale, hanno reso noto il governo dello Stato e il servizio ambulanze locale.
Le autorità hanno riferito di aver ricevuto una segnalazione di "incidente con uno squalo" intorno alle 9:45 (ora locale) a Glenfield Beach, a poco più di 400 chilometri a nord di Perth. L'uomo è in "condizioni serie ma stabili", ha riferito l'emittente pubblica ABC, citando le autorità sanitarie locali. Agli abitanti della zona è stata raccomandata ulteriore prudenza in prossimità della spiaggia.

Aumentano gli attacchi di squali in Australia
Secondo gli scienziati australiani, l'affollamento crescente delle acque e l'aumento delle temperature oceaniche starebbero modificando i percorsi migratori degli squali, contribuendo a un incremento degli attacchi. A gennaio un bambino di dodici anni è morto dopo essere stato morso da uno squalo mentre nuotava nel porto di Sydney. Tra maggio e giugno tre sommozzatori sono rimasti uccisi in altrettanti episodi distinti, due nell'Australia occidentale e uno nel Queensland. Sempre a giugno, una donna è stata aggredita da uno squalo in una delle spiagge più frequentate d'Australia, a Sydney.
La donna, un'insegnante, il mese scorso ha raccontato di aver sferrato un "gancio sinistro" contro il predatore prima di essere trascinata sott'acqua. Dopo l'attacco del 13 giugno è stata messa in coma farmacologico e le è stata amputata parte del braccio sinistro. Dal 1791 si contano circa milletrecento incidenti con squali in Australia, di cui oltre duecentosessanta con esito mortale, secondo un database che raccoglie gli episodi di contatto tra squali ed esseri umani.

Authorities reported receiving a call about “an incident with a shark” around 9:45 am (local time) at Glenfield Beach, just over 400 kilometers north of Perth. The man is in “serious but stable condition,” ABC, the public broadcaster, said, citing local health authorities. Residents were advised to exercise extra caution near the beach.

Shark attacks are on the rise in Australia.
According to Australian scientists, increasing water crowding and rising ocean temperatures are changing shark migration patterns, contributing to a rise in attacks. In January, a twelve-year-old boy died after being bitten by a shark while swimming in Sydney Harbour. Between May and June, three divers were killed in separate incidents, two in Western Australia and one in Queensland. Also in June, a woman was attacked by a shark at one of Australia’s busiest beaches, in Sydney.
The woman, a teacher, said she “delivered a nasty hook” to the predator before being dragged underwater. After the attack on June 13th, she was put into a drug-induced coma and part of her left arm was amputated. Since 1791, there have been approximately one thousand incidents involving sharks in Australia, with over two hundred sixty resulting in fatalities, according to a database that collects shark-human contact episodes.
