Okay, I have now prepared two postcards in the context of the #ThisIsNotFine project, "Postage-free by law!" written in the corner where a stamp would otherwise go. Address on the right side, lots of info crammed onto the left (drafted in pencil first, then inked). Postcard 1, to Julie Dabrusin, MP for Toronto-Danforth, Minister of the Environment, lawyer: your environmental policies are killing human beings and entire species and eco-systems; Liberal policy is genocide and ecocide; Do better for $217,700 + $103,600 + car allowance. Postcard 2, to Governor General Louise Arbour, former Supreme Court of Canada Justice, former prosecutor of war crimes, former United Nations Commissioner of Human Rights: I hope you will be similarly clear in your current role; Current government policies promote genocide of Indigenous peoples, extinction of entire species, and climate collapse; Please use your privilege; Please don't be smilingly complicit through this. #CanPoli #ClimateCrisis

As Canadians, I think the most tragic thing, the thing that hits us right in the culture, is summer used to be a kind of collective celebration of surviving the winter. Sunny relief after adversity. And now, between runaway allergies, lethal heatwaves, and the forest fires, summers are turning into a seasonal gauntlet much worse (and less easily remedied by a toque and hot cocoa).
