@26pglt@mastodon.au I mostly agree. There is quite a lot that can be done to make our roads safer and to teach driving to much better standards. I don’t want to make this a long toot (it’s a habit I have) and if there is intertest out there I am happy to carry on with this conversation. One beef I have is you: ”There’s lots of bad drivers out there, esp among those who’ve been driving for ages.” This is really not helpful and easily falsifiable given the large amount of *variables* and *circumstances* which lead to kind of statistics collected as evidence. I could just as easily assert that P platers are the worst #drivers on the road and might even cite some stats to back it up. But #stats are only as good as the #assumptions on which they are based. I consider the level of #DrivingSchool instructions to be awfully bad. For example, take a look at the differences between a young adult undergoing instruction for their #motorcycle licence against another going through driving school for a #car licence (NOTE: This is in #Australia, I don’t know about other countries). One will be better at #Roadcraft then the other when there should be no difference. #RoadSafety #DriverCompetencies #DrivingLicence #RidingLicence #DrivingStandards #DriverTraining #LicenceRequirements #Testing #RoadStats

Hey folks, can you help me out with a little something: trying to come up with a good number of files limit for a file scan (for Kitten so you don’t hit heap memory limits if you run it from the wrong directory by mistake) and I’d love some statistics from real JavaScript/TypeScript Node.js projects of the number of files in them (excluding .git and node_modules). Would you be kind enough to run the following command in Terminal in your largest projects and let me know what number your get (along with a short description of the project): find . \( -name "node_modules" -o -name ".git" \) -prune -o -print | wc -l Thank you :) #Kitten #SmallWeb #SmallTech #NodeJS #web #dev #stats #helpWanted

Nate Silver, the guy who called 49 of 50 states in 2008, just filed a coroner’s report on the 2026 terrain. Approval: 41.8%. Disapproval: 56.1%. Gas: $4.11/gallon (up a buck from last year). Forecast: The House flips to Democrats with 85–90% certainty. The redactor-in-chief flew to Michigan to stand near work he never performed, but the math doesn’t care about his optics. The gas gauge keeps score. November is coming for the whole damn grift. You can’t tariff your way out of a spreadsheet. #NateSilver #Midterms2026 #ElectionData #Politics #GasPrices #HouseFlip #Forecast #Trump2026 #Democracy #Stats #News #Georgia #Michigan #ThistleAndMoss
