Every July, a secretive all-male encampment (past guests: presidents, senators, SCOTUS justices) gathers in the Sonoma redwoods for an event called “Bohemian Grove”. This year, for those 3 weeks, Santa Rosa airport quietly ran the departure route it's told residents for 2.5 years is impossible. Seabird monitoring at Bodega Rock today was really awesome. There was one or two pods of humpback whales offshore and some were breaching and lobtailing. Nice having the bird spotting scopes to see them in detail. That was pretty fantastic. (No I didn't get any pictures, sorry) And yes, Bodega Rock was very crowded as usual with cormorants, common murres (who are so friggin' cute), and lots of pinnipeds (also a scattering of seagulls and 3 pelicans) (we only count/monitor what's actually on the rock; lots of other stuff flew by) https://stewardscr.org/sonoma-coast-volunteer-program-seabird-monitoring/ #sonoma #sonomaCounty #sonomaCoast #stewardsOfTheCoastAndRedwoods
